I must admit, I also feel quite uncomfortable about very young children using all this electronic stuff. So, no, Cam, you're not a lone voice in the wildnerness.

Janeite prepares to be shouted at / braces herself!

belgo · 03/12/2007 19:20

janeite - I won't shout at you, I agree with you.

but our children are growing up in a very different age to us - computers barely existed when I was this young - and my idea of childhood is playing dressing up, playing with lego, dolls in prams etc.

janeite · 03/12/2007 20:13

I totally agree with you Belgo and perhaps that's why I think we should try to let them stay "young" for as long as possible - bring out the dressing up box and unplug all the other stuff eh?!!!

(Fio - electro mag is one of those magnetic sets, like geomag, with little rods and balls that fit together BUT it has a current running thorugh it and you can make circuits which cause the linking rods to light up etc. )

(will cjheck out microwave flolwer presss - sounds brilliant)

we have this one

Kaz33 · 04/12/2007 09:11

My nearly seven year old is getting an Nintendo DS Lite and I have thought long and hard about it. He likes playing games on the computer and watching TV so to a certain extent it will replace that.

He is also getting a Science Explorer CD Rom as he is mad about science and loves learning.

Blu · 04/12/2007 16:49

Fio - Electromag But i se on Amazon it says for 10 year olds ! . I hope not - I am sure we have seen in in catalogues as advertised for 6 plus! DS is adamant he wants it, anyway, loves the various 'magnetix' sets, and obsessed with electrical circuits. Also, the Guardian gave this a good write up.

Enid - thank you for the flower press link - I would never have known such a thing existed! Sounds good.

My boys are 6 and 4 and have no idea what a hands console is. They play pirates or wizards and like colouring and action man. I can't believe people would pay that amount of money for a game! Maybe i'm missing something.

you actually managed to get hold of one summerfruit?

Othersideofthechannel · 04/12/2007 20:13

Yes, you just walk into shops and buy them in France. DH had an email from a UK colleague today asking him to get him one. Apparently they keep running out in Calais because of all the people popping over from the UK to buy.

belgo · 05/12/2007 07:30

yes they've got them here in Belgium as well.

ernest · 05/12/2007 07:44
