Venture made my dp cry - BASTARDS...

We got a voucher from dp's brother for our civil ceremony and over a year later finally got round to having our photos done.

Went to 'preview' them last night and they were of course gorgeous photos - just stunning.

But... our voucher entitled us to one 10" x 8" and they were insistent that the photo we really wanted (and our second and third choice) couldn't be made into this size. But they could be made into a 7" x 5" but we'd have to pay £100!

We ended up paying and dp was soooooo upset and angry that they'd taken us for a ride. I knew she was on the edge of crying and we just about made it to the car...

She phoned this morning to cancel the order and we're insisting on having the free 10" x 8" but it's heartbreaking because we couldn't afford the layout we wanted and they'll probably crop the picture so it's rubbish anyway.

Sooo, I know it's been said on MN many times before, but don't go to Venture! Definitely not worth it and definitely a horrible hard sell at the preview - tainted the whole experience and we hate that there are stunning photos of the boys that we'll never have

Darth - yes - as a longstanding MNer I'd read all the threads!! Would never have bought a voucher myself but this was a present.

Since my £300 Venture experience, I have taken DSs to a local photographer and the whole thing, including four beautifully framed pictures, cost me £90.

I am a photographer- child and family portraits and weddings- and I use digital. It is an absolute lie that they could not print the shot you want in 10 X 8. It sounds blatently like an attempt to get more money out of you. If they are saying they have to crop the photo to get it printed 10 X 8 then that is also nonsense- why can't they just print the entire image onto 10 x 8 paper- if it does not cover the whole 10 x 8 sheet of photographic paper then who cares- bloody well trim off the excess bit of paper- far better to do that than crop you or your partner's head out of the shot!! Which is what it sounds like they are implying they may have to do to print it 10 x 8- that is absolute lies and only said to pressure you into parting with more money.
To give out a 10 x 8 voucher and then take shots which cannot (or so they claim) be translated into a 10 x 8 print is a blatent con. I'm sure trading standards must be onto them soon. I've had clients come to me for portraits and heard similar tales from them about their experiences with Venture.

Jetson - I never thought of that - wish I'd have been thinking that logically at the time.

ah well - will update the thread when the photo arrives...
