Because my DS#1 wants one for his b'day in January. I've found a few that would do OK for starters and aren't too expensive and I'm OK with it but my DH isn't sure. He reckons that DS wouldn't find anywhere to do it - ie we'd have to take him out on the hills or find a boarding park whenever he wanted to use it. As it happens I'm all for anything that winkles DS out from his urban setting and gives me some company when I go for my long country walks. But I have a few questions:

  1. But how legal is it to just take off on a board over common land? Is it OK as long as you stick to paths that bikes can go on? I don't want to be chased by irate farmer types with pitchforks .
  1. How much safety stuff do you really need? He has some for his skateboard but it's all a bit small for him now.

Personally I like the idea. But I think it's just sour grapes 'cos DH wants to feed his growing and unhealthy obsession with football. And I don't!

Maybe we should swap ds's.

We live in the country and ds is always moaning that there's no concrete to skate on!

Common land - yes, no prob.

Fields - don't obviously go on crops

Safety - dunno but my mate went on her ds's and twisted her knee really badly, needed an op & is still having probs.

Thanks mumblechum. There is no way I would ever go on anything that low to the ground that moves fast and unexpectedly. So I'm safe

My dad is a Nat Trust warden and he gets annoyed with mountain bikers going on the wrong places (they do make a mess TBH but so do horses) but I don't think he (or the nat trust) have ever come across moutain boards so I wasn't sure. We have plenty of concrete here.... and plenty of tutting adults too
