To Kill a Mockingbird - rented the DVD from the library this week - it's just lovely. sniff.

gingernut · 16/10/2003 19:38

janh - have you read the book? It always has me in floods of tears too.

lubu · 16/10/2003 19:46

Out of Africa - makes me cry every time I see it, sob!

marthamoo · 16/10/2003 19:52

I knew that "Daddy, my Daddy!" from the Railway Children would be in this thread and there it was...I start crying as soon as the smoke starts to clear on the platform.

Also It's a Wonderful Life, Beaches (so corny but weepy), Steel Magnolias, oh and what is the name of that film where the little girl is deaf..and she learns to make sounds by pressing her lips on to a balloon? It's a girl's name...ooh help me out someone.

Mine and dh's first date was to see Ghost - I was reviewing it for the student newspaper. I thought it was v. silly but dh2B was a bit sniffly (he was just trying to con me into believing he was a new man..ha!)

Schindlers List - I cried my heart out from about 10 minutes in, right to the end of the film.

Sadly, I watched it a second time and the impact was nowhere near as great - something which also upset me in a different way, that you could become immune to that level of suffering.

Loobie · 16/10/2003 20:19

Beaches and I am sam,was out in the cinema last year dont know if it's on video yet.

CountessDracula · 16/10/2003 20:44

Most recently the end of Dirty Pretty Things had me weeping pathetically for 10 mins.

Bambi when his mum dies, every time.

Any form of torture.

Anything happy.

MichelleM · 16/10/2003 20:52

Marthamoo - Mandy.

lou33 · 16/10/2003 22:34

I am too cold hearted to cry at any film.

Angiel · 16/10/2003 22:42

An Officer and a Gentleman.
Watership Down (every time I hear Bright Eyes, I start).
Dirty Dancing.

Anything that's remotely sad or happy really.

janh · 16/10/2003 23:18

gingernut, I have read the book (and have it somewhere) but not for a very long time. I must read it again.

My DDs (21 and 18) watched some of it with me and were really enjoying it but sadly we had to turn it off and go somewhere way before the end. There is supposed to be a documentary about the making of the movie on the DVD, couldn't find that but did get a commentary, from the producer and someone else - Scout and Jem were played by 2 non-actors, and the atmosphere on set was such that they were so close to Gregory Peck that the girl who played Scout still called him "Atticus" just a few years ago. (I love Scout - hard to believe she must now be nearly 50!) It is such a gentle film and the kids are so normal.

Did you know that Harper Lee and Truman Capote were neighbours as kids? Must have been something in the water!

doormat · 17/10/2003 08:42

simon birch boohoo so sad
I have never cried at a film before until I seen this.

marthamoo · 17/10/2003 09:31

soothepoo, thanks

nursie · 17/10/2003 09:39

Watership Down, Lion King, the end of Ghost, and the one that gets me every time, the Simpsons episode where Maggie says ' Daddy' at the end.
