or whatever msrollover is calling herself these days!

she has texted me to say that her pc suddenly logged itslef off and started to reboot but got a blue screen which only stays on for a second - not long enough to read the message on it then reboots again

stuck in a loop

anyone help?

ok the blue screen could well be the 'blue screen of death' which will say its performing a physical memory dump. Get her to start the pc in safe mode and it should run from there - has she got any anti-virus?

popsycal · 08/11/2004 10:27

she will have anti-virus...would you believe she works in IT....but has not seen anything like this before......

how do you start in 'safe mode'?

um... just trying to remember! I've only just had this problem myself - i think she has to get into the bios screen and can switch to safe mode from there... If she's not sure i'll switch off mine and do it to find out exactly how....

popsycal · 08/11/2004 10:30

i have texted her...she will probably know what to do from that info zephyrcat1
thanks!

no worries if you need more help i'm around for a while. Get her to run her anti-virus once she's in and also to do a search for 'McAfee Avert Stinger' when she finds their webpage, download stinger and then run a scan - that gets rid of worms and stuff. Good luck!

popsycal · 08/11/2004 10:46

she says it isnt the blue screen of death - it is a quick message that flashes on
and it wont start in safe mode......

popsy - is she sure that her CPU hasn't given up the ghost?

zephyrcat · 08/11/2004 10:50

has she been able to see any of what the message says? Other than that i'm stumped!! Sounds like she may possibly have to re-install the OS?

popsycal · 08/11/2004 10:50

dont know.....

she is off to the dentist anyway-so will chat to her further when she gets back
