Xmas tree with crawler in the house - ?

DP and I have never had a tree but feel like getting one for DS's 1st Xmas this year (he'll be 11 months at Xmas and is already beginning to pull himself up). What's the safest way to approach this? And should we get a real one or fake?

We put ours in a playpen (tree not crawler!). It was an artificial one and we got unbreakable decorations for it. ds would pull himswlf up on the outside of the playpen and take swipes at it but no harm was done.

HTH.

We had a small fake one when DS was at that stage & put it on top of a cabinet so it was out of reach ! Also made sure that the decorations were the hard to break variety, just in case !
