Relocating to Colchester area

We are considering relocating to the Colchester area or a village/town nearby. We would still need to commute into central London a couple of times a week but feel we could get a bit more for our money there and be close to the coast etc and just generally have a better quality of life. Would you recommend it for a young family please and how do people find the commute into London. Also are the schools generally ok? We have a budget of approx £700k. Thanks

Or if anyone has any other recommendations of lovely places to relocate to that are commutable into Liverpool St that would be great. Smile

I live in Colchester, if you want to know any more.

Your budget is quite healthy. Look at Wivenhoe, it on the estuary and is a lovely small town with rail links to London. I've recently moved out of Colchester to live abroad, I grew very wary of the town myself as I felt my teenage boys would not benifit from living there any longer. The primary schools are excellent but secondary schools ( apart from the Grammar school) not so much. Nice areas in Colchester, Lexden, St Mary's and Maldon Road area are nice Victorian properties with good school catchment. Please DM if you want any more info .

Thanks @patsy999 and @bert3400. I appreciate it. Are there any other areas commutable into Liverpool St within about 45 mins that you would recommend? I am wondering about Bishops Stortford for example.

Look at commuting from Marks Tey station which is only 45 mins from Liverpool St. Opens up the west of Colchester and surrounding villages. Good access to A12 too.

Thanks @MrsPatrickDempsey 😊

Hi,

Colchester is lovely, however there are many villages in the area too. Kelvedon, Nayland are both superb.
All commutable to LL Street, we used to to take the journey every day. I would say around 50mins., although if you have to drive to the station that's an added extra.

mumlife6 · 15/07/2021 11:31

Thanks @Howaboutnow. Are trains fairly frequent and did you often get a seat?

OP posts:
Howaboutnow · 15/07/2021 12:06

Yeah, very frequent.
Seats were available 90% of the time

mumlife6 · 15/07/2021 16:52

Thanks @Howaboutnow 😊

Sorry all, one more question. Do you mind me asking how much you paid for a season ticket or per week/month? Thanks
