I have been shopping at (mostly) our local Sainsbury’s for years: but have noticed a definite trend for use by dates to become sooner and sooner as the months go by. This is mainly on “fresh” vegetables, but plenty of other items too. For example: I bought some carrots recently where the sell by date was that same day, but the price was not reduced. I can’t help feeling that if supermarkets can reduce our expectations of use by dates to a couple of days, they will obviously exploit that financially. I would love to hear what anybody else thinks :-)
