Hi, so my DS is 13 weeks and EBF. We’ve been told he has a suspected CMPA after blood appeared in his nappy’s 2 weeks ago and his nappy was very mucusy which they have been for a while. We were told by an emergency Dr that he was constipated which he definitely isn’t and she said BF babies tend to be more constipated which is the complete opposite to what I’ve always been told. I spoke to a HV a few days later for a second opinion and she said she suspected CMPA which I’d also suspected however he doesn’t have the other tell tale rashes although he is sick a lot and pretty much after every feed. His poo’s also have varied for the past 2 weeks but are still mucusy and still have traces of blood in. He’s also always been colicky and irritable. I’ve been dairy free for just over a week and i can’t see much change in him however I’ve read it can take weeks for the dairy to be out of your system. We were also prescribed aptamil pepti 1 which DS does not like even when mixed with my milk. They’re testing his poo for any signs of bacteria and we saw another Dr the other day who wasn’t much help. I asked if there was another milk to try but she said they’re all similar and I’m probably best off continuing to BF. My issue is that I don’t want to be dairy free. I can cope with doing it at home but my worry is if i go out for a meal or go somewhere where i end up consuming food that i may inadvertently consume dairy because literally most things contain milk. I also don’t want to be unhappy having to look at every single thing i buy or consume and as much as I’m enjoying BF i want me and DS to both be happy. Has anyones LO tried any other hypoallergenic formula’s and taken to them better then the aptamil pepti 1 or has anybody elses baby had similar experiences/symptoms and it turned out to be something else or any other common allergies? I know soy is something that can affect babies and I just feel like I’m at my wits end because i suspected CMPA from 4 weeks and another HV fobbed me off. It’s also very likely as myself and my partner were both the same when we were babies. TIA

Both mine have cmpa and soya allergy
You will probably need neocate if they as sensitive enough to react to dairy in your diet. The Pepti is probably still aggravating the gut.
Neither of mine would actually drink the neocate formula without me adding loads of sugar and vanilla essence because it disgusting and the smell when mixing it is awful, like swimming pool water.
Being dairy free is easy once you have got the hang of it and found the alternatives.
I felt I couldn’t do it at the beginning but now I wouldn’t go back to most dairy options.
Once the gut inflammation has gone down you can probably get away with a bit of dairy when you eat out. I can get away with something with some dairy in it once a week, obviously not something with loads of full fat cream.
Cream is the only thing I’ve not found a decent alternative for.

Hi, yes my son was the same with very mucusy nappies, colicky, upset after feeding, although also had a rash and a wheeze.
He was prescribed nutramigen formula for cows milk.allergy, however this did not improve things (as it still contains trace of dairy), he was then put on pepti and had horrendous runny nappies with no improvement until eventually being prescribed neocate, he is a different child on it, tastes disgusting but he eventually came round to it. I dont think they like to prescribe it as it is so expensive but do not be fobbed off, it makes such a difference to baby! Insist on a formula trial of pure amino (no dairy at all)....however you are correct it took a good 4 weeks for all symptoms to disappear.
I found our GP useless and only got sorted once baby seen a paediatrician and dietician at hospital.

I was dairy free for 2 years almost 10 years ago (before there were so many vegan options around) while breastfeeding my CMPA ds. (And fwiw also egg, nut, soy, sesame and shellfish free). It is doable and the longer you do it the easier it gets!

And also sounds like you might need nutramigen or Neocate which are hypoallergenic formulas.
