Learning to drive at 38!

So I’ve finally decided to bite the bullet and learn to drive at 38 years old!

Tbh I have been wanting to do it for years but I have struggled with anxiety for a long time and I’m also mum to 2 boys, one of whom is disabled and I’ve always lacked confidence and just felt I couldn’t do it.

I’m not even sure what’s changed but I feel ready to do it now.

Any tips or advice for learning to drive in your 30s or even general learning to drive tips?
Thanks

I know someone who was in her 50s when she learnt. Apparently it can take longer to learn when you're older - but even if that's the case, a bit of patience and perseverance and you can do it! Good luck Smile

For ease I would learn in an auto, they are getting more common and are much easier.

I did it- scraped in and passed my test just before my 40th. Best thing I ever did; I drive everywhere now.

Find the right instructor (I went through five)

Be patient with yourself and accept that it’s harder to learn a new skill at this age

Start with manual, you can always switch to auto if you want. I persevered with manual and I’m glad I did.

It takes as long as it takes. It took me a year and three attempts to pass my test.

Watch lots of you tube videos- test route, manoeuvres etc.

Pat yourself in the back for doing it. You won’t regret it.

Good luck!

You can do it ,OP. Once you get the hang of it it will quickly become second nature! Good luck, let us know how you get on!
