We have barely any savings, I am only working 2 days a week and we have a £1200 mortgage payment coming out at the end of the month. Plus all the other household bills, DS' birthday and Christmas coming up.

FFS!!!

He was looking for another job anyway as his company have obviously been in trouble for a while so is registered with lots of agencies already. He has called them to tell them he is available now. He has been really choosy with his job-search to date as he wanted to find something which was 'right' but I don't think he can afford to be picky anymore.

What do we do? Has this happened to anyone else?

We luckily have employment cover but the bastards will only pay 60 days after the claim has been made...their reasons being that they need to investigate the claim. He will have a job within a couple of months but then he won't be entitled to claim anything once he is employed again angry

Also, he has a laptop, Blackberry and a company car although that is from a leasing company.

Would it be wrong to erm...take these things if they don't pay him (which I really doubt they will)?

Please help me get things in perspective. I am really stressing.

I think the first thing you must do is make your mortgage company aware of the situation and also if you have any credit cards that may need paying - let them know.

Go through your freezer and cupboards and make a list of things you have and what you could make meals with - this would help with the shopping bill for the next couple of weeks then you only need to buy fresh fruit and veg/milk as you go along.

Have you got any family that can help over the next few weeks?

Not sure about taking laptop etc, but perhaps he can bargain with his company about these? Or maybe just leave laptop at home and sort of forget about it until someone asks?

Can you look on ebay for bargains re birthdays and christmas pressies?

Something always comes up, so try and keep smiling.
