am short on space here. sister got me a lovely pram the other day and i need to get a new matress for it. if i get a decent qulaity matress then it seems a shame to use it for just going out, was thinking about using it instead of moses basket. has anyone done this? just with dd2 being a whirlwind the pram will be sturdier.

We have used the carrycot part for trips away with ds, even at almost 6 months, and for his day time naps. Think my SIL did it more regularly overnight when hers were newborn.

My dd slept in the carrycot part of our travel system for the first six months, and it doesn't seem to have done her any harm!

its the carry cot i plan to use. its lovely and very sturdy. lot sturdier than the moses basket and stand i have.

I used the carrycot part of a pram as a first bed -much better than a moses basket - used for both dd and ds. I set it on a little table next to my bed

babster · 02/11/2004 16:28

We did this too - never had a moses basket.

RudyDudy · 02/11/2004 16:30

definitely - it's practically the same as a moses basket but without the bows!

We had a mamas and papas carycot and used this instead of a moses basket with both our babies. If the babies went to sleep downstairs we used to take it upstairs with them in it and sit it inside a crib frame beside our bed without waking them up. It worked really well until about 10 weeks when they got too big and went into a cot. They were both winter babies and I think it was a lot more cosy than the wooden crib.

We used the whole pram. Good for gentle rocking! Never got the thing out the front door in the end so bed was the only use we got out of it!

We used a carrycot for the first 5 months or so for dd.

I used the carrycot part of my Britax travel system for both my first 2 and intend on using it again for no3 anytime soon. I bought an additional mattress to go in it to make it more comfortable. But otherwise its basically the same as a moses basket just conveniently on wheels. Invaluable for rocking babe to sleep in the early days when your back is aching!

Yes both my boys started their lives in a Mama and Papas carrycot

I used carrycot, too.

highlander · 02/11/2004 19:16

me too, for the first 2 weeks then I moved him into his cot in the spare room - his noisy sleeping was driving me up the wall!

Still use the pram for his daytime naps as its easiy to whisk him out for a walk if he's already settled.

I don't think pram mattresses are as good as the cot ones though - i kept having to turn it over and around to stop the little DS dent forming!

geekgrrl · 02/11/2004 19:25

also used the seat from my ancient cosatto 2in1 (which converts into a very cozy carrycot) for the first 5-6 months or so, and occasionally afterwards when ds had a bad cold etc because it's much easier to prop up than the cot.

WideWebWitch · 02/11/2004 22:11

Yes, I used a carry cot as a bed for both mine until they were big enough to go into a cot.

throckenholt · 03/11/2004 07:52

All my 3 were in carrycots for the first few weeks (only way they would fit in our room !). Our twins shared a carry cot for the first few weeks (hard to imagine now ).

We used carrycot part of the pram for my DS for first 6 months.
