My DD will be starting driving lessons in September - any recommendations with regards to manual v automatic lessons/cars?

Are automatic that much easier? Think you can then upgrade to a manual license? Thx

I would recommend learning on a manual unless she has something like dyspraxia. You only need the one licence that way, but still drive an automatic.

I found learning to drive was 10% car control, 90% dealing with the roads and the other people on them. So for most people learning in an automatic wouldn't make much difference. Try a manual first I reckon, and if it gives real trouble try an auto.

You can only upgrade an automatic licence if you pass another driving test. It would be a lot harder to learn automatic to manual than to learn manual straight off tbh.

There’s a thread going currently with useful perspectives www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/4238139-to-give-up-driving-after-just-two-lessons

Automatic cars tend to be more expensive so I would stick to manual and then she can drive either. If you pass in an auto you can't drive a manual. Saying that, eventually all cars will be auto!
