..requiring a simple factual reply, why do so many of you feel the need to interpret it's real meaning and thus give unasked for advice?

Err.... what sort of questions were you thinking of?

puffling · 10/11/2007 16:56

say I was to ask if anyone knows where I could get a good quality black umbrella from? I might get the reply, 'Why do you need an umbrella? Don't let the weather rule your life.' - that sort of thing.

Oh, I see. I don't tend to give answers like that tbh, in fact I'm often tempted to reply to questions with one-word answers (but I don't because I feel it may be a little rude).

because it no-one did that then threads on MN would be about 10 answers long and it would be an altogether dull place to be

MrsBadger · 10/11/2007 17:03

'You can get a leopard-print corset with nipple cutouts here, but have you thought about a nice wrap dress instead?'

SoMuchToBits · 10/11/2007 17:05

I know what you mean though, it's like QoQ's party thread she has started this evening, where she has ended up having to justify why she is not going to a wedding with her dh!

southeastastra · 10/11/2007 17:05

d'oh!

yes people are just being friendly (or nosey)

TheQueenOfQuotes · 10/11/2007 17:09

SMT - don't worry about that - I think it's going to be a flop anyhow LOL.

SoMuchToBits · 10/11/2007 17:12

Oh, that's all right - I'd come along myself, but I'm going out in RL tonight! Hope you have a fab time though.

TheQueenOfQuotes · 10/11/2007 17:14

well - I'll see how it goes - I have a strong sneaky suspicion the thread will die a death - with me talking to myself and I'll probably head back downstairs to watch something cr*p on TV, choose one of our (many) DVD's to watch or play on teh PS2

Lulumama · 10/11/2007 17:35

it is human nature

why do you want an umbrella? why a black one? what about a hat? a hood? a plastic rainmac?

people are nosy , interested and want to knwo about other peoples' lives
