I spoke to my friend yestaday and told her dd would be starting nursery at easter -her response was you'd better go shopping for your nursery clothes you need to look good to take and fetch dd from nursery.

I know she's abit of a glamour pus but all i was thinking was my normal atire -

So what do you wear ????

I go in whatever clothes I am wearing for that day. It's normally a work day so generally black long skirt/trousers and a shirt. But if she goes int he holidays, then I am in jeans and t-shirt/jumper. I have never even thought of dressing up to take her there and back!

WHAAAAAAAT?????

fairydust · 01/11/2004 08:59

I konw i was a little "yeh what ever" but she's got me thinking now - that prehaps i should make a little effort for dd's sake

whatever i am wearing at the time! I've never dressed up for nursery or school runs!

jampot · 01/11/2004 09:13

I think just normal clothes are suitable for nursery/school run but I suppose it does depend on the sort of school your child is going to. Ours is a normal state school and if Im wearing a suit to work that day, I go in a suit; if I'm just doing housework, it will be jeans, tshirt etc

WigWamBam · 01/11/2004 09:29

I can't believe that anyone would be so precious at to suggest you might need to "look good" for nursery school! Normal attire is fine - although that said, if you think you are going to set yourself or your dd apart by the clothes you wear you might want to avoid looking as if you've been doing the gardening!

I wouldn't go and buy a whole new wardrobe for nursery, just see how everyone dresses on your first day and take it from there, really. Even if you feel you need to dress smartly, you must surely have something already in your wardrobe that would do?

eidsvold · 01/11/2004 09:39

I wore whatever I was wearing to work that day....

Demented · 01/11/2004 09:47

LOL at this!

My hope is that I make it to School with clothes on and all in the right order!

woodpops · 01/11/2004 09:53

OMG, lol never heard anything so stupid. I wear what I've worn all day for work and if I happen to be off of work for a day then I take them wearing my trackie, jeans whatever comes to hand 1st. When I was on maternity leave I was even known to leave my jim jams on, chuck a pair of jeans over the top and zip my coat right up. God aren't I a slob.

How old is your dd fairydust???

stickynote · 01/11/2004 09:57

woodpops, a friend of mine had to drive her dh to work one day so bundled her kids into the car still in their pyjamas and she still had hers on too with a coat over the top. Then someone crashed into the car at a busy junction, so they all had to get out of the car and wait by the side of the road....

woodpops · 01/11/2004 10:30

Now that would be my nightmare. That's why I always pop jeans over the top. Plus nursery is a 1 minute drive away!!!!

welshmum · 01/11/2004 10:36

I think it's only worrying if you're a pretty famous actress and go to pick up your kids in your old clothes with no make up on and looking pretty beat up - like most of us do all the time!
Then people just look at you thinking 'Oooooo they certainly slap it on her for her close ups'....or was that just me

soapbox · 01/11/2004 10:37

My children go to a private school and TBH I was very worried about this as I am far from a glamour puss!

However all very very normal - almost all in either jeans and T or suit depending on whether WOTH or SAHM. There are probably 2 mums who glam it up - but if anything they are the one's that people have less to do with - think they just scare the rest of us with full make up and perfect nails and hair at 8.30 in the morning

woodpops · 01/11/2004 10:52

I have to be out of the house at 7:20 each morning and there is no way on earth I could get me ready with full hair and make up done and the kids ready. My hair normally just get's scroped back into a ponytail and make up is very rarly put on. Can't have my nails done as can't wear falsies or nail varnish at work!!!

Kayleigh · 01/11/2004 11:14

LOL at this. Bloody hell, you should have seen the state of me this morning.

Nursery clothes !!!

anorak · 01/11/2004 11:22

When I am in the house during the day I do a lot of DIY, or crafts, I end up covered in glue, sawdust, paint, whatever. Consequently I wear old paint-spattered clothes most of the time.

Because of this I do change into other clothes to go to the nursery. Just change into clean jeans and a T shirt, something like that. I must admit I would feel very self-conscious if I went there in my old rags!

Some of the mums do look as if they have nothing better to do than get their hair and nails done all day!
