Apologises if you get confused by all this:

Im currently on Income Support, I get child tax credit, child benefit, housing and council tax benefit and maintenance from exp (dd's father). My rent is covered, and I dont have to pay council tax.

Dp is moving in with me next year. We plan to get a new place, so I will have to reapply for HB/CB, as dp will be living with me and itll be a new place etc. The plan so far is that he will be doing full time education, but will be getting a part time job. I am also hoping to get a part time job.

If i do get a job, Ill have to work over 16 hours to benefit from it, which means Ill come off IS, but will get working tax credit, and childcare support if dd goes to nursery. I know if we're both working, we'll only get a certain amount of HB.

Am i right so far, and is there anything ive missed? Dp's parents have been talking to him about it, and dont think we'll be able to afford to live together, so i want to be able to explain to them that we will be ok, even though money will be tight (but always has been with me so no change there). I will be going to CAB when I can, but thought Id ask on here to see if anyone knows. Thanks. xxx

hiya hun, go to cab website before you call in, they normally give a list of popular questions, there may be something to help you.

Dp living with you shouldnt affect your child benefit as far as I am aware but sounds like you have everything else covered - its such a pain doing all those forms!

tammybear · 30/10/2004 21:11

i know taramac, hated going through it all at the start especially when you dont hear from them for ages! just hoping that we can actually afford to be together which is why i want to find out now, so if we cant then i can come up with a plan B

You do know about the tax credit website too? I know you dont know yet what you or dp will be earning but it might give you some idea of what you would get if you have an idea of what you could earn working part time.

taramac · 30/10/2004 21:16

If you know what I mean! Sorry that was a bit long winded.

tammybear · 30/10/2004 21:17

apparently you get a tax credits bonus if you work over 30 hours but im not too sure what exactly this is. i only got told this by the job centre a couple of months ago but ive only been claiming benefit since my redundancy in may so its all very confusing to little old me!
