New Year's Day falls on a Saturday, so the Monday 3rd is the bank holiday - hurrah!

Its because New Years Day fall on a Saturday and they can'y give the 2nd Jan as a holiday because it is a Sunday so we have been 'given' the 3rd Jan. Same as Christmas Day and Boxing Day. They noth fall at the weekend so 27 & 28 Dec are 'holidays'.

Hope that makes sense
