I have just joined the gym. I have done zero in the way of formal exercise since I was 16 (when I finished ballet) My mum informs me that if you are serious about the gym you have to spend at least £100 on trainers!!

Please tell me she is wrong...

She's wrong. You don't need expensive trainers for the gym. You need to invest in good trainers from a running shop if you are doing some serious high impact exercise, llike running!! But for the gym normal trainers are fine.

Thanks kitty. I am not sure what I will be doing yet - it's to help with my depression but I wasn't thinking of running.

agree with kitty, you don't need loads of expensive kit - it is for poseurs.

however if you do want to do a lot of running, some proper cross training/running shoes wouldn't go amiss - but even the brands aren't that expensive. I got some swishy, bouncy Nike Air ones for 45 quid recently

Ha ha ha.. I have never bought any trainers over £20..and mine are just fine for the gym!

And the personal trainers don't tell you this!
