Help! I need advice over what to do for DD1?s birthday party. She started Reception in September and has lots of new ?friends? but no firm friends yet.

No-one from DDs pre-school started at the same school as her. She has settled happily into school and she mentions plenty of people that she plays with. But their friendships are so fluid at this stage, and with no pre-established friends, it makes it a bit difficult to know who to invite to her party. I am planning a party at home with about 8 children. We don?t continue to see the friends that she made at Pre-school.

Whenever I talk to DD about it she mentions different names or else far exceeds the amount of people I have in mind.

What should I do? The teacher is not going to be impressed if I ask her to help me form a guest list is she.

DDs birthday is in about 3 weeks time.

I asked my daughter's 'teachers' at nursery to give me a list of the people she plays with most (we couldn't invite the whole class) and they didn't mind a bit. Why don't you ask one of the teaching assistants if the teacher looks busy/harassed?!

had same dilemma with DS2 last week. I asked his teacher and she asked how many, mixed or just boys, and put together a list, then put invites in bookbags for me.

I would ask your dd's teacher for three names of children she plays with. Then ask your dd for the remaining 5 names. She might make new friends as the term progreses, but as you can't predict who these are going to be, you have to just invite the ones she tells you on the day you are making the list.

We had this with ds1 just after he started. I had a class list and went for the ones that he named each time we went through it, and then the ones he named the day I had to get the invites sorted! We invited 10 but a couple couldn't make it so it worked out at a nice number.
