Spudlet · 24/01/2021 19:31

Tall, very cool, chilled out, pretty liberal. Generous welfare systems.

(I do know that not all Scandinavians are tall, having lived with a very petite Finn - but I still think of them as a pretty lofty bunch, all in all).

Outdoor loving.
Helpful in an efficient, logical sort of way.
Rule followers who don't like standing out from the crowd too much.
Happy to pay for expensive beer.

Swedes not embarrassed by nudity., like winter sports and their holiday homes.
Finnish slightly quirky
Danes good design sense, a love of coffee and like to feel cosy.

RealHousewifesHouse · 24/01/2021 19:42

I am not British but have lived here for decades.

I think of Scandinavians as educated, sporty, tall, blonde, interesting, chilled and with a low key sense of humour (and high key sense of adventure).

I always say that ''if it is all about how you identify nowadays then I am going to identify as a Scandinavian'.

WinterdiscontentGlorioussummer · 24/01/2021 19:43

Ah, you must be able to do better than that, you are much too polite 🤣.

Hi op, I expect you are a fellow Scandi 😉.

Thethingswedoforlove · 24/01/2021 19:47

I think I think of them as really brilliant. But quite serious.

Worst · 24/01/2021 19:48

Very matter of fact
Dry, witty sense of humour
Slightly mundane / boring
Socially responsible
Pragmatic
Straight forward and straight talking/no nonsense
In general, as a collective rather than every person, slightly more racist than they would like to think

Thethingswedoforlove · 24/01/2021 19:48

And i really wouldn’t know what differences there are between them. A pp has helpfully set out some stereotypes pertaining to each country which I will look to take on board!

NameChangerinDespair · 24/01/2021 19:52

Tall and blond and broad-shouldered (men).

Tall and blonde and beautiful (women).

Morose. Heavy drinkers of strong spirits.

Slow of speech. Outdoorsy. Impervious to cold or drama.

Shaniac · 24/01/2021 19:52

Dp is swedish. Tall, blonde, blue eyes, slim.
Obsessed with oil and talking about oil prices and how oil can fuel the economy.
Loves swimming and saunas.
Left wing.
Very anti prison and punishments.
Loves the wilderness.
Loves free time work life balance

This could just be dp and his family and friends but even swedish stuff he puts on youtube is the same.

Twinkie01 · 24/01/2021 19:52

After watching the first 2 series of The Bridge this past week I'd say you wouldn't fuck with their police and they seem to smoke more than I expected.

They are friendly and look nice without make up or are just confident without make up and they're quite head strong.

I have to say that I've only been to Sweden and Finland v briefly and my view comes from watching The Bridge entirely

HappySmurfs · 24/01/2021 19:53

haha this made me laugh, I'm Norwegian and just wonder what people think (and if I should pass myself off as something else :) )

@Twinkie01 if you judge us by the Bridge, I guess it's OK if we think all of Britain is like Midsomer Murders 😂.

Twinkie01 · 24/01/2021 20:02

Never watched it but go right ahead.

If all men were like Martin Ruhle I'd move there tomorrow too!

Not sure I want to watch series 3 & 4 without him.

Spudlet · 24/01/2021 20:06

@WinterdiscontentGlorioussummer

Of course, it absolutely is after all. Now please excuse me, I need to go and bump off a neighbour in a ridiculously convoluted way (my favourite episode was the bloke whose horse was drugged to make it bolt at a huge fence - just bail out man ) before I am arrested by a twinkly-eyed detective 👍😂
