Can anyone make any good recommendations?

I am in Luton but can travel reasonably easily - fancy something a bit different to the usual, sit in a tin bath thing.

Is 4 months a bit too young to get anything really different done? Am i best waiting until she is more able?

We had some fantastic black and white ones done last year. But I think Nottingham will be a bit too much of a treck for you!!!

From my experience, I would reccomend having some venture pictures taken.
They are not cheap, but look great!
I have recntly had some done of my boys & am really pleased with the finished product.
The pictures come in a lovely frame & look really unusual (more like a piece of art than just a photo)
I got tempted by seeing a friends pics that were taken by them & then when I saw the offer of £125 worth of pic 4 £25, I signed up straight away!
You look them up on the internet at www.thisisventure.co.uk.

Our Venture photography session was terrific fun, but do be careful with the voucher offers - ours ended up costing us £700 as we were so impressed with the pictures.

However, getting the pictures was a nightmare, the first one was damaged, it then came back without its frame, was then sent to the wrong studio, got lost, and took about 4 months (instead of 6 weeks) to arrive. We then found the staff less than helpful at chasing up the picture, and they haven't even bothered to acknowledge our letter of complaint. The pictures are beautiful, but I couldn't recommend Venture to anyone simply because of their crap service.

Wow, that deal is amazing - i have just signed up for it!

Does anyone know how much any extra photographs cost?
I hope they come up with a few ideas as to what you can with a 4 month old. The pisture of someone holding the baby up in the air in wonderful - you'd break your wrists if you tried to do that with our DD

Spring Chicken - do you mean Venture? Their other prices for "desk portraits" start at £80, their framed pictures start at about £300 for a 5 x 8" in a big frame, ours has 3 5 x 8" in a large frame and cost £700. Their images go up to over £1,000. They are not cheap.

SpringChicken · 26/10/2004 15:26

Blimey - Got a feeling DP is going to go loopy when he finds out what i have done!
I am dangerous at home alone all day long ;)

Having read your other post, i know i will just fall in love with so many and end up spending a fortune - ooohhhhh, DP is going to be cross!!

If it is venture that u have signed up 4, the extra pics range from £75 for a framed desk picture to around £1000 for a large collection!
You can use your £75 to go towards a larger picture & also, if you agree 2 have a venture party & 5 people sign up 4 a picture session u get a voucher 4 another picture worth £295!
I have the £295 picture & it is stunning!

SpringChicken · 26/10/2004 15:29

Yes it is venture! !
Will get rallying around and see who else i can sign up then - got to do something to soften the blow!

We weren't going to spend any extra money at all and couldn't really afford it - but when you see the pictures, it's a whole new ball game. Be prepared - they display you about 70 pictures on a large screen, and all of them are wonderful. You will have salespeople on the phone from now until you book your session, and they will start again immediately you have had the session, wanting you to hold parties for them in your home. You need to fix your buget in advance, and both stick to your guns that you are not going to go over the budget.

WigWamBam · 26/10/2004 15:32

Oh, and you will get a discount if you order on the day of your preview, by the way. If you order later, the prices are around 20% higher.

SpringChicken · 26/10/2004 15:35

Oh dear - why do i do these things!

Think its best if we take (in cash) exactly what we can afford to spend and leave all other forms of payment at home, just to be on the safe side!

Will have to make sure my mum doesn't come or she will spend a fortune! I got some professional photographs done for my 18th birthday which mum arranged, she planned to get one photograph and in the end bought the whole album and it cost about £1500 !

You'll have great fun at the portrait session, though! Our daughter is older and had a lovely time. It's very relaxed and natural, no stiff formal poses or anything. And some of the stuff they do for babies is stunning. You'll want it all ...

And they do keep your photos on file 4 up 2 a year I think? So u can go back another time, when u have saved some more money or had your succesfull party!!!

WigWamBam · 26/10/2004 15:45

Do make a note of the reference numbers of the pictures you think you'll want later though, otherwise you'll have to go back for another preview session and want them all, all over again

nikcola · 26/10/2004 15:58

woodpops · 26/10/2004 16:01

SpringChicken · 26/10/2004 16:55

For good photos ilkeston way try Field Photographic in Heanor, www.fieldphotographic.com
I think they still do a free session, with no obligation to buy?, very good photos, nice and relaxed atmosphere.

misdee · 26/10/2004 20:03

we recently had a venture session in watford, and the kids loved it. they spent a good 20mins chucking huge balls at the photographer. we took along a few of their own toys, i was very tempted to get more pics. However i only budgeted 230 for the pics (worked out how much i could afford when they gave me the price list) and stuck to the one pic. it is really really sweet. i am tempted to go back when i have some more money and get the other 2 pics i wanted after xmas. but then i want another session around this time next year when bubba will be about 6months old.

mckenzie · 26/10/2004 20:55

We went to a chap in Loughton, Essex and had some lovely photos taken of Ds when he was 4 months and went back for another set when he was about 18 months. From what I know of Venture, this set up is completely different. For a start, his studio os above a High Street hairdressers, from what I can remember we weren't offered tea or coffee but it was still a fun session. The main difference I think is the price. We paid £60 for the first session and for that we got a lovely A5 hardback booklet with about 30 photos in and these were ours to keep. Any extra copies were about £4 for 6x4 and up from there. The second time we went I think it had gone up to about £70 but we still got the booklet of photots to keep. We ordered a few enlargements and he is very good at doing different styles of print, frame etc. We have a lovely 3D sort of collage (probably sounds awful but it's lovely). Very original, lost of people comment on it.
Anyway, for what it's worth, I would recommend this guy as long as you dont mind not getting the home comforts of some of the more expensive companies.
If anyone is interested, I'll look up his telephone number.
