Why so defensive?

I have just had a brief talk with someone[in rl and not about covid]. I am a little bit thinking that someone[not a relative of theirs,] may be untrustworthy. The person became a bit snippy.

What would be the reasons for someone doing that type of thing please? Thank you.

She could of course be in a bad mood, but I dont think it was that on this occasion.

Well I think, as a general rule, nobody likes to hear somebody bitching about their friend.
