How do YOU "do" mumsnet talk?

That doesn't make a lot of sense does it?!

Let me explain. I first started posting on mumsnet a little over a year ago. Then I always looked at the messages posted in the last day, and found I could easily scan all of them and respond to a lot of them. Now I just feel totally bogged down by all the messages (today there were nearly 400 posted in the last day) I just don't know where to start. I find I'm barely posting at all anymore. I generally spend around an hour on mn in the evening.

So how do you lot decide what to post on, and how often/how long are you on mumsnet? I feel really out of touch. I was never really a prolific poster, but put a few messages on each day.

I just go through active conversations! There are 50.

GeorginaA · 25/10/2004 22:11

I use Find new messages but tend to scan down the list for topics I read most often if I'm short of time. I find using active conversations that I miss stuff that I would otherwise love to read just because it hasn't been "bumped" recently.

coppertop · 25/10/2004 22:15

I scan through Active Conversations and ignore the ones that I know absolutely nothing about. After that I usually check the SN board.

Caligula · 25/10/2004 22:16

Active conversations and any that aren't coming up but interested me in the previous 24 hours

essbee · 25/10/2004 22:18

Message withdrawn

Oh, just remembered ... I usually do a search on my name at the end of the week (which is usually scary to see how many threads I've chatted on!) to see if I've posted on a thread then not noticed a reply.

Unfortunately, I then see how many threads I've killed too

melsy · 25/10/2004 22:19

IKWYm posey , I used to be prolific poster ,but now its sooooo immense !! I tend to use either actives or my fave board and just go straight to it. Ive started using last hour now as so many convos drop off really quickly. I think u tend to gravitate towrads ceratin titles or areas that grab u.

LunarSea · 26/10/2004 07:50

Find new messages -> since (whenever I last looked) then scan down for the topics I'm interested in, or anything which catches my eye from the first line previews. Tend to skip past some of the topics - and hardly ever get down as far as chat I'm afraid!

JoolsToo · 26/10/2004 08:05

Active Conversations - then look for an interesting title! Sometimes search via 'Topics'

Davros · 26/10/2004 13:38

Couldn't handle active conversations, got sucked into too many threads and had less time for the sections I really like. I always go to home page, talk and choose the sections I like and choose by title. Seem to have avoided a few flounces that way although not adverse to hearing about that after the fact

WideWebWitch · 26/10/2004 13:48

ikwym too. I still do last day but skim read (I am v fast reader tho) the thread titles and open any that look interesting or ones I know I want to post on. It is harder though with so many per day so sometimes I only go to active conversations. I'm sure I miss a lot though as I only come on in the evenings usually (except today, I've been ill so off work today).

MrsDoolittle · 26/10/2004 13:49

I have the April thread saved on favourites and then I check out active conversations. I also search my names to see where I've been posting every week or so, incase I need to reply to someone

80sMum · 26/10/2004 19:50

I scout around on the active conversations and see if there's anything that interests me, then post the occasional pearl of wisdom (or not!) By the way, MrsDoolittle, you said I sounded like your mum! Is that good or bad?! I guess I was showing my age a bit on the nappy thread, then!!

LIZS · 26/10/2004 19:57

Active conversations then , if time, certain topics of interest or where I recall having posted recently.

ScummyMummy · 26/10/2004 19:58

If I have time, last day. If not active convs on 50, moving to active convs on 150 if those are dull.
