I would try and avoid the obvious choices - money boxes, glass things, musical things, silver things, tooth boxes, plates, etc. DD ended up with several different types of these things. We don't have lots of surfaces, esp not in her room, so they are primarily stored away.

I'd probably go for:

  • a nice hard backed children's book
  • some nice stainless steel or silver children's cutlery

DD recieved a silver napkin holder (was tradition in friend's family) which was very nice. Now DD is older she loves to use it.
