pregnant cat question

My cat had 4 kittens on Friday (3 days ago) she is doing well as are the kittens but she still looks like she has 1 kitten inside. What I want to know is, is this possible? I know cats can get pregnant by 2 cats at the same time so does that mean she would give birth at different times to? My mom said she thinks she can remember my sisters cat having kittens then a few days later having another 1 but I can't remember. And also if this is the case would the kitten be ok? I don't really want to phone a vet as it sounds silly saying it out loud.

But a vet is the one person who could give you the advice you need! Don't be embarrassed to ring and ask, it's a perfectly reasonable question.

I have been scanning an ancient book I have about cats but can't find anything to answer your question. It seems unlikely to me. I would ring the vet though, just to be certain. I am very jealous of your kittens though. How lovely to have them in the house right now. I would love a couple of kittens.......

what makes you think she still has one inside?

jamiesmom · 25/10/2004 15:05

Titania she has a lump above her milk where her kittens were, i've had a feel and it feels hard so i'm not sure what it is. I'll see how she gets on and if i'm still worried I'll phone the vet.

Lonelymum when i had her i got 2 so they would have each other to play with but mini got sick and had to be put down so i am thinking of keeping 1 of the kittens, have to talk dp around first. It is lovely to have them in the house but they will be due to go xmas eve . Where do you live? If it's near I'm selling the others I'd love to keep them all.

wigwambam thanks, just feel silly but it's better to be safe i suppose, It's not like she can tell me if there's a problem

I am not a vet and only remember this from a tv programme but I seem to remember they can give birth at different times. But I shall wait to be corrected!

Jamiesmom, I doubt if many people would know the answer to your question, so the vet won't think you're silly to ask it. If you are at all concerned, ring the vets for some advice. They won't make you feel silly and it could put your mind at rest.
