Ds scared of fireworks.

Ds is already jumping at every bang of a firework at night. He says the monster is coming. Where he's got that from I don't know. We were hoping to take ds and dd to a display this year but ds really doesn't like it. He won't even look out of his bedroom window when I said about showing him how pretty they are. Any ideas????

How old is he woodpops?

He was 3 in August. This fear appeared last year. He'd always been fine before and we'd always been to firework displays. DD (nearly 2) loves them so we thought we'd all go to the local display as a family. Looks like I'll be staying in with ds while dh takes dd.

I used to hate fireworks until the years that earmuffs were fashionable because of the bangs..is it the noise aspect?

I've been phobic about loud noises like fireworks for as long as I can remember so I do empathise with your DS. All I can share is what didn't work for me. My parents weren't empathic at all and basically tried to force me to enjoy them by taking me to displays, and this definitely made things worse--I was terrified. It's only now that I can appreciate they're pretty too.

My DS doesn't like them either (& neither do I really). It doesn't really bother me though as i think some of the ones that your can buy now are far too big for domestic use. Last year our neighbours invited us round for a firework party & DS spent all evening indoors wearing a pair of ear defenders ! I didn't mind as I stayed in with him - nice & warm & able to drink more wine compared to those outside in the cold !!
