I remember I got a humungous bouquet delivered at work one day.....we had been together for 6 months. It was so big I had to prop it up against a shelf in a bucket!! the girls at work were SOOOOOO jealous!!! hehehe

Nowadays I do get flowers on quite a regular basis. Especially when I am a bit down in the dumps. I also get a lot of teddies. More often than not its for when he wants to apologise for being lazy though.........

bea · 25/10/2004 08:02

last week!!! he came home with some irises and yellow chrysanthemums (spelling right?? if so!!! !) whenever he's in town and if he sees a bargain, he always buys me a bunch.... think he thinks it earns him brownie points!!!!... which i suppose it does!!!

dh does like to buy the sexual organs of flowers !

so i get other little presents occasionally. like a packet of crisps

PicadillyCircus · 25/10/2004 08:27

I got flowers delivered to the office on my first day back at work. That was at the beginning of September though - maybe I'm due some more!

acnebride · 25/10/2004 09:05

dh came home last sunday (week ago) and said he'd wanted to buy me flowers but he'd disliked the only ones he could find, and could I please buy myself some nice ones?

Was touched by the thought and would actually prefer to buy nice flowers than get horrible ones. But kind of wished that he'd just held the thought for 24 hours and done it himself. he can't win!

But am suspicious of flowers really, the most frequent flower-giver in my romantic past was and is a serially unfaithful guy.

childmindersam · 25/10/2004 09:14

My Dh says if he was to buy me flowers on a regular basis that i would think he had done something wrong! Quick witted me said the same back to him about ironing his shirts.

I do think flowers would show how much he appreciates me as he doesnt say it often enuf!!! Maybe im just an old romantic at heart!

Probably twice a month and maybe six times a year I get a huge beautiful bouquet, just for the hell of it. aaahh

popmum · 25/10/2004 09:56

Really, he has never bought me flowers, even when I told him it was the law when you have a baby for the hubby to get flowers

I can't remember!
Probably b4 we were married!!

blueteddy · 25/10/2004 09:59

He did buy me some hair straightners a while back though!

jodee · 25/10/2004 10:07

Errrrrmmmm... scratching head... probably a plant on Mother's Day.

The funniest thing about DH and flowers - we were having a light-hearted debate about this with his brother and I mentioned the flowers he bought me after ds was born, how they were still going strong 4 years later, sitting in the fireplace in our bedroom because they were PLASTIC! But the REALLY funny thing was - DH had no idea and thought they were real when he bought them!!

hatter · 25/10/2004 10:08

every Friday night I find myself thinking wouldn't it be nice if DH came home with a bunch of flowers or some choccies for absolutely no reason whatsoever. Never happens but doesn't stop me hoping. He would probably be shocked to find out that there is a tiny bit of me that hampers after romantic gestures. He did once get flowers delivered to me at work - think that was a wedding anniversary. Bit off thread but his most romantic gift was a piano, which rather stunned me.

golds · 25/10/2004 10:12

I can't remember ? I buy my own, besides whenever he buys them, he always buys the wrong colour, they have to match the colour of my room of course.

My sister bought me some red ones the other day so they have gone in the hall (red carpet) my mum bought me peach ones which have pride of place in the lounge.

Its probably for the fact I am too fussy, he won't buy any just incase he gets it wrong

hatter · 25/10/2004 10:19

good point Golds, I once told dh that no flowers at all was better than carnations or chrysanthemums - it was a general chat, not just after he'd bought me some carnations and chrysanthemums, but still maybe I've put him off

nikcola · 25/10/2004 11:13

on my 18th birthday because he forgot so i kicked him out, im nearly 21 and he allways forgets my birthdays

WigWamBam · 25/10/2004 14:38

I used to get flowers every week, without fail. Now, I usually have to buy them myself! At least that way I get flowers that I like, rather than what's left at the garage or half price in Tescos

graduation day 6th September

Nikkichik · 25/10/2004 15:04

About 2 months ago when I had been away at a family wedding - no kids invited so we couldn't all go as couldn't get an all w/e baby sitter for dd. I think they were supposed to be from dd as a welcome home mummy type thing! (I had a ball drank far too much and had 2 blissful nights in a posh hotel without having to get up in the night! - actually I missed then like crazy and felt guilty!)
The flowers don't happen very often and when it does can't help wondering what's coming next - how suspicious am !? We don't do Valentines Day - OK he doesn't do it! When we were first 'courting' I'd get chocs, wine and strawberries (it was the summer) but never flowers!

Lonelymum · 25/10/2004 15:05

I don't like my dh giving me flowers, maybe because he only used to buy those cheap bunches from the garage. I told him to stop wasting the money when there are so many other things to spend it on. Does that make me a sad old bitch? I think the occasional full blown gesture is nice though, like once when he sent me a massive bouquet at work one Valentine's Day. It was embarrasing though as I was a primary school teacher and the flowers were delivered to my classroom!

acer · 25/10/2004 15:16

Once a year on our wedding anniversary, but I prefer a bottle of champagne or wine, which he does buy me regularly (every other day!)
