I moved here from the UK and although i used to visit lots to see family I find living here extremely difficult in many ways.Just wondered how others have found it.Thanks in advance

you'd have done it a bigger favour by dropping it down the closest sewer, kerry, that's probably where the pet shop that sold it to eejit mugs like her got it .

expatinscotland · 23/10/2007 23:45

thinking about making some atholl brose . . .

TheCurseOfTheMhummy · 23/10/2007 23:45

I know she is Kerry, doh! read in wrong context.

By the by I'm a direct descendant of Diarmuid Mc Morrow High king of Leinster, but it's a little known fact that he was responsible for erm inviting the English to visit they took it literally though.

He was having it away with the missus of the high king of Ulster and needed a did out because king ulster wanted his nads.

This was long before Cromwell.

I might ask Mn to delete this after 30 seconds.

elliephant · 23/10/2007 23:46

whats that atholl stuff? wil have to make the fried porridge thing for my ds - he loves porrige and rashers so combining the two should be a hit

chipmonkeyPumpkinNorks · 23/10/2007 23:46

I remember being so elated when corporal punishment was banned! Our principal had a thing she called a "slapper" ( } and she told us than ban or no ban, she would use it on any girl who misbehaved. But we knew she was bullshitting!

expatinscotland · 23/10/2007 23:47

IMO it all went agley when Christianity came to Ireland.

Before that, they had a nice system of different types of marriage, like the year and a day one.

Then these eejits came in and ruined it all and, worse yet, crossed the sea and spread it all over Scotland .

elliephant · 23/10/2007 23:49

ah yes brehon law - when women could own their own cows

expatinscotland · 23/10/2007 23:51

well, atholl brose is whisky infused with oats, honey and cream.

the legend is that the laird in Argyll, in the West, pissed off another Highland laird, the Perthshire laird Atholl.

Atholl pursued Argyll, but he managed to run away.

So Atholl thought of a cunning plan, to infuse the well that fed Argyll's fortress with whisky, honey, oats and cream.

Then wait for the resultant effects on Argyll and his merry band of Highlanders.

Sure enough, they fell to drunkeness and Atholl was able to avenge himself on Argyll.

Now some serve this as a pud, basically as whipped up cream with honey and oats, but its origin is as a whisky and it is still sold as such.

Black pud is up there with lorne sausage, the boak.

I have tried in vain to feed DD1 American foods.

She has detested everyone.

But she will eat haggis, all forms of porridge and all things Scottish.

Ah, despair!
