on your home page or as a pop up?

champs · 24/10/2004 19:40

when I type an address it goes to the netspry page. I then have to type it again in address bar and then it will go to correct page. Sometimes however it wont and will keep going to netspry page. I have run adaware and spybot.

your browser has been hijacked. Giant anti-spyware is very very good. There is another piece of freeware called Hijack This which is also good. Or if you have XP go to change/remove programs and see if there is anything on there that looks suspicious.

have you run a full scan with giant?

Enid · 26/10/2004 19:00

and do you have a firewall - you should get one of these as well to stop new bits of adware being downloaded.

singingkat · 26/10/2004 19:01

Or try downloading Pc-cillin anti-virus free trial. This link should work. You can also try \link{http://www.pestpatrol.com/pestinfo/n/netspry.asp \this}. Or else use another browser - firefox is particularly good and there are no hijackers for it yet

Enid · 26/10/2004 19:02

not a virus though - adware is just a program that you agree (without your knowledge!) to download - most virus protection doesnt pick it up.

singingkat · 26/10/2004 19:04

The same thing had happened to my dad's browser and Trend Micro picked it up.

JoolsToo · 26/10/2004 19:13

Agree trend Micro is excellent - I had a Trojan virus but my Norton had expired and they wanted £17 so I donwloaded Trend Micro free and it killed the virus - excellent!

ty!! I had a virus but norton couldn't repair and access was denied. I can t find the file and after four scans my cpu seems to be virsu free but how do I know it's gone? can viruses hide in other files when their host file is deleted??
I am becoming very virus paranoid!!
