Not sure which yet as not sure who is most at fault just yet.

Someone posted a parcel to me, recorded first class post, on the 10th Oct. There was an attempted delivery at 1pm on the 17th, card wa sleft telling em to collect from depot after 24 hours.

I have been in every day since then and it has still not been sent back to the depot. And no one seems to know where it is!

The (very lovely) postmaster has spoken to the postwoman who has apparantly "put it back in the system" - I don't know what this means, but the postmaster did not seemm impressed with this.

That was Saturday. Went into the depot today - yes, not there. However, the postmaster did give me another parcel, which they'd apparantly tried to deliver on Friday. But postwoman had not left a card of any sorts to tell us about it. So, this could have just gone completely unmissed and never recieved had I not had to call in anyway!

I am so cross. The parcel is now who knows where and noone can tell me when i will be able to collect it. It is recorded delivery which means when it does finally arrive at the depot they will only keep it for 7 days before sending it back to the sender. Howeever I go on holiday on Saturday - so this is actually a possibility.

I have looked on track and trace on the RM website, but it won't accept my code. Got through eventually on the phone number - they can't tell me anything about it's whereabouts until it has actually been delivered. What is the point in that? Not like DHL where you know where it is in the system throughout.

Argh! And there is nothing at all I can do.

No wonder people are so desperate to look for alternatives. But there is no alternative for smaller packages, and that is what is so infuriating.

We had a similar saga with a Mattel parcel via Parcelforce. Got a card , went to collect (8 miles or so away) and it was being redelivered just as I was speaking to the depot man. They had spent 3 days locating the house then I hadn't been in! Fortunately he left it anyway as it didn't actually need my signature and workmen were there, but the PF depot man could at least see whether it was out for delivery and if a successful delivery had yet been made.

That reminds me I need to phone Mattel too.

What they probably mean by 'put back in system' is posted back in the postbox. We have had this. If the postman can't deliver a parcel, he simply sticks it in the postbox and it goes round the delivery and sorting system again until it turns up back at the sorting office.

Bonkers.

So why put a card in my letterbox telling me to call in 24 hours at the sorting office - madness!

Adnd why I never got a card for the second parcel I have no idea.

Because the card is pre-printed and actually assumes that they do the logical thing and take the thing back to the depot. Round by me, they only do that if it's too big to get into the letter box.

It's barmy isn't it? Royal Mail and I are not on good terms when it comes to parcels. We had one attempted delivery the day before the strike. When we went to collect it after the strike had ended (FOUR days after the strike mind)we were told 'oh, it hasn't made it back yet'.

Grrrr

Hulababy · 22/10/2007 14:53

But she did tick the relevant boxes and she did write on it 24 hours (have had it say 48 hours before).

Just drives me mad.

Its infuriating isn't it? I had a similar thing when I hired a TENS machine to use during labour - it had supposed to arrive via royal mail three weeks before due date and because I wasn't in when it was delivered, it ended up somewhere In The System for the next 10 days while I was frantically ringing every sorting office in the area telling them I could go into labour at any minute and need it NOW!

It turned up a couple of days before DS was born and it ended up being sod all use during labour but thats beside the point!
