URGENT help - what flowers signify

Help - we are due to leave shortly for the special birthday of a dear (older) friend. I have bought an arrangement of orchids which are burgundy with white 'flecks' on and white with burgundy 'flecks' on. This person is VERY superstitious about red and white flowers and death. As soon as my husband saw them he said "that is as near to red and white as you can get". I was horrified - I had assumed it means red flowers with white flowers... Any information would be much appreciated and quickly - we leave in an hour or so.....

"
Flowers have always been used for decoration at weddings.

Some people choose the flowers at the wedding on the basis of their symbolic meaning. For example orange blossom has always been associated with weddings because it signifies purity and chastity.

Peonies are avoided by some as they represent shame; azaleas represent temperance: roses symbolize love and snowdrops represent hope.

A combination of red and white flowers is avoided by the superstitious because they stand for blood and bandages.

However, people from different regions may attach other meanings to the same flower. For example lilies symbolize majesty to some but are thought unlucky by others because of their association with death."

Im pretty sure its red flowers and white flowers together ON THEIR OWN in a vase (that was meant to be expressive not shouty). My mum who wasn't superstitious used to be a nurse and a patient had red and white flowers delivered one day. That evening another lady who was in the same ward and due to go home next day died . Obviously it is one I have taken on board.

cream/ivory coloured flowers and red are okay though (apparently)

On the plus side I read last week that orchids are very good flowers for the bedroom as they promote sleep!
