Wow! I just got a completely unexpected cheque in the post.................

for £223 because I paid too much tax (apparently) in 2005/2006 tax year. They wrote to me (what feels like) ages ago asking for me to send my P60 for that year (cue panicked searching LOL). I duly sent it off to them and forgot all about it. P60 arrived back here last week with a hand written "Your computation with arrive later" note on it.

Again didn't think anything of it - until this morning I opened up a letter and there was the "computation" with a cheque for £223 attached .

Shan't be spending much of it on "me" but it'll go a long way to helping

We were stressing at the time because we had no money to buy wedding rings lol.

think I may treat myself to a new mobile phone when it clears.......I'm not being materialistic honestly - I've got an ANCIENT Nokia (it's one that DH bought about 6yrs ago and I ended up with) and it's rubbish, the battery goes flat too quickly, it only holds about 6 text messages in the inbox in one go and is positively useless LOL.

I won £230 on my dad's horse a few weeks ago, and am spending it tomorrow on

1. A haircut
2. Highlights
3. GHD straighteners

All the things I wouldn't normally spend on for myself.(Oh, and two tubes of glittery eyeliner a la cod's thread last week).

Be frivolous, but not wasteful.

When I was younger I got a 2k tax rebate just before I went to Ibiza for 2 weeks.

I spent it all on drink, clothes and getting high.

At least I didn't squander it

Mobile phone - good idea. But get one in pink or with sparkly bits and enjoy being frivolous. And you'll still probably have plenty of money left to be sensible with.

no way Fimbo - I'm can't WAIT for the 1st of January when I shall write my resignation letter (if I do it earlier then I'll have to pay back my AL I took at the start of my Mat leave - but 1st January is that start of the new AL year ). I do have a genuine reason for leaving though - DH now does occasional training at work - however because of the nature of his job it could mean he's away at the opposite end of the country for up to 1 week (mon-fri) - and it's usually quite short notice they get - so working nights simply won't be an option

I don't really 'do' pink either but got a pink phone as an act of rebellion against living in a house with 3 males. It has the advantage that DH will never commandeer my phone! Mind you I rarely use it so it wasn't much of a rebellion!
