Composting with Worms

I have a normal "Green Dalek" compost bin in my garden. The trouble is it is a bit smelly, we have had lots of flies this summer, a family of mice, and the compost takes ages to be ready to use (12 months plus).I have heard that these problems are resolved and you get lovely compost quicker with a 'wormery'. Has anyone got one?

Hi Gingerbear - there's a thread somewhere called are compost heaps smelly - it's either under chat or otehr subjects, dated less than a week ago (started by me) the upshot was check out a website called wiggly wigglers - it's great and tells you all you need to know, either about adding worms to a normal compost heap or having a wormery.

maybe just buy some extra worms. we have a compost bin and were worried as we got flies to start with, but once we had a critical mass of worms come up from our soil, it was fine. kids love to look and we supply nursery with worms for the wormery there!
