What percentage of your monthly net pay does your mortgage consist of?

Ours is around 25%. My DH tells me this is HUGE and because of this we can't afford an £80k extension. I think ours is fairly low but would be interested to hear your views.

Pants, I meant numbers

ScaryScienceT · 16/10/2007 21:24

around 15%

NannyL · 16/10/2007 21:27

about 35 / 40%

Aero · 16/10/2007 21:33

Ours is about a 25% now we've borrowed to extend. It was about 20% before that. Don't think we could afford more than a third though. We are able to save a bit each month, but are always well broke by the end of each month.

TheYoungVisiter · 16/10/2007 21:33

30% (that's me and DH added together)

SaintJude · 16/10/2007 21:34

50%

Tis very shitey.

MrsJohnCusack · 16/10/2007 21:52

but we moved to the other side of the world to achieve that & now earn a pittance and have no friends. used to be 35%
I don't think 25% is huge TBH

JennaJ · 18/10/2007 09:15

Jenna

SharpMolarBear · 18/10/2007 09:17

soon going to be moving, will be 33%

LilBloodRedWantsGore · 18/10/2007 09:19

40% of DH's salay. I'm a SAHM.

titchy · 18/10/2007 09:58

Eek - we're looking to move and will probably spend 60% of our household take home on a mortgage. And that's with a 25 year term too.

mygirllollipop · 18/10/2007 14:20

Yikes - ours is 85% of DH's salary (I'm SAHM) but he's just got a promotion/wage increase so it's maybe 75-80% now.

mumblechum · 18/10/2007 14:22

About 50%, but DH gets v good bonuses, so brings it down to about 30% overall.

StripeyKnickersSpottySocks · 18/10/2007 14:41

OrmIrian · 19/10/2007 07:47

About 20% I suppose. But we live in a sh*thole . And why are we still short of dosh??? But I'd be terrified to have it too much bigger TBH.
