but i'm gonna get one anyway lol. at the end of the day its my sacvings i'll be using, and he spends all his cash on everton memorbillia (this week i have to get him a signed framed shirt on my card for £100 as he doesnt have a debit card). i'm fed up with being kicked off the pc for the kids games or dh game (currently morrowind, means he'll be on here for weeks in the evenings).

so can anyone recommend a nice not too expensive laptop to buy. not too flash, just enough to get me online and maybe do some work on (when i get my arse in gear and enrol on OU course next year lol).

Misdee I got an Aspire laptop at the beginning of this year and it was about £699, came with a free PDA which kept DH happy!

It isn't the flashest, it isn't the fastest or best with ribbons on but it is a good machine. Does what I need and Libby on Neighbours has one too! They won't be as expensive now so tell your dh to get lost and go get yourself a laptop! (I felt really guilty about buying it afterward as we aren't exactly flush with money but DH said I deserved it for putting up with him and ds twin toddlers. Plus as I was vastly pregnant at the time I didn't get a 30th birthday present or a proper Christmas present that year, so it was belated by 2 years but well worth it.)

Would have loved a tangerine ibook at the time they came out!

Enjoy!

Get your laptop and wireless network connection -it's great, you can chat on MN all night and be in the same room as your dh while he watches Everton!

Sorry Misdee I meant to say an Acer Aspire. Jeez,it didn't make me any smarter, though!

if you can afford it misdee get a dell; they are the best laptops around - entry level model not too expensive. Don't get one from PC world

i was looking at one yesterday in comet, was £599, seemed ok, but i know nothing about them lol. dh stills says i cant get one. if i get my compensation thro from the accident in the next 6 months (which i doubt) then i'll be treating myself.

I agree with nasa misdee, don't buy one from the high street, it might seem cheap but for the quality it's overpriced. I used to buy on-line from Gateway, but they're gone now, so I got the last one from Dell.

misdee, have you have had a look at the dell outlet website. I got my laptop there a few years ago and got a great deal. Basically they are pcs/laptops etc that people have returned to Dell as they have a no-quibble 21 day return policy if people don't like what they have bought.
A few sometimes have a problem and they take these ones apart again and rebuild them so I cannot see the difference in these and brand new ones. the website is www.dell.com/outlet( I think) its worth checking out as the stock they have is always changing.

Agree about wireless connection, it's great! I can sit in front of the telly or even tucked up in bed with a cup of tea to hand. Don't ask me how it works though!

just got my new laptop today. I had mine stolen, so needed to wait till insurance settled. All sorted today sow ent and got a great laptop. Dh is sorting virus software out, then I can play.

I think laptops are great and they have some reasonably priced onces in PCworld. My dh tries to say no when I want something...but I never listen!!!!

Hope you get around him
