Bidding on council house

Sengland01 · 29/10/2020 21:30

Evening just wondering if anyone has been in the position of coming 1st on a council house and won it without a local connection. I don't have any family in England and I work outside the area and I live in a village 3 miles outside of the area where I have come.first for a council house. What are the chances of getting the house do you think? Or will I be skipped to the next person. Am on gold plus band. Thanks

Did you get it? @Sengland01

Sengland01 · 13/11/2020 19:00

Hi no my bid was skipped for local connection reasons. Spoke to them they have said I can only get something in the village I currently live in or another smaller village where I used to live close too 4 years ago. The changes of that are slim. Plus will be living in the same village as my ex which the very reason why I want to move out of the village. Am first so far for another house, again in another village, so will see what happens.

Oh gutted for you, I've been 1st on house all week in a similar situation to yours. Bidding ends at midnight tonight, trying not to get my hopes up but it's hard!

Sengland01 · 14/11/2020 09:03

The council am under is super strict even though I only live 3 miles away from the house i won. In actual fact i have lost 2 brand new houses for the same reason of local connection. You maybe fine where you are. Are you first for the house today.

Yeah I'm still first! I only recently started bidding early October because I've been putting up with anti social neighbours for 6 years, the police have finally put in a complaint about them so the HA are taking legal action against them but are unable to tell me what legal action, I just want out now.

Sengland01 · 14/11/2020 12:49

It's so stressful isn't it. We may both be in luck this week fingers crossed. I started bidding in September so must be soon.

Well fingers crossed for you, I will keep you updated with hopefully good news and if you could do the same that would be great

Sengland01 · 14/11/2020 14:37

Yes our luck must be in right, well fingers crossed anyway. Will let you know the bidding for this house ends Monday midnight then normally takes around a week and half to find out if your successful or not.

Not sure I can wait that long especially if it's a no lol, I did find out within 3 days about a house I was unsuccessful for which I was 5th. I'm just glad I'm 1st at least I stand a bit of a chance.

Sengland01 · 14/11/2020 17:28

What do they consider to be a valid local connection? Is there a list? I take it a job counts? If you don’t have one in the area would voluntary work count? You could volunteer to be a litter picker in your desired area, or work in a local charity shop or something, would that count? If that does count you could work the hours round your current job/life commitments? Eg litter picking in the area local park on Saturday afternoons or something? If there isn’t a group already you could approach the council and start one? (If it would count)?

Sengland01 · 14/11/2020 19:44

If I dont win this house Elieza then I may just do that. Yes you have to work or live or have family in the area you want to move to. Am only 3 miles from where I need to go but still no local connection. It's a good idea if it dosent work out for me. Thanks

Are there any ex "in laws" there as they are still the DC relatives even if not yours...

Briony38 · 14/11/2020 21:47

Did it state you need a local connection? The one I'm first on doesn't state that?

Sengland01 · 15/11/2020 08:36

Briony you are in with a good chance. The one am on first for this week says just need financial checks which am working part time in a school as need to raise our son. Its laughable isn't it when most of the time a man can stay on in his high salary job but that's a different story. It does not say local connection for this house but obviously under the same council so will see hun. Randommess unfortunately his parents have passed away and his family are in a different town as in brother and sisters.

Briony are you still number 1. I got a call from the council to say I have been selected for a brand new 2 bed house in a village the other side of the village I wanted but it's great little village and on my way to work. Just doing the paperwork now and she said am the only one for it so as long as it all goes through then I can get the keys at the weekend. It's so unreal. Good things can happen to good people. Got everything crossed for you. X

Sengland01 · 18/11/2020 08:27
