so proud of myself! since 4 this afternoon a pipe sticking out above the kitchen window at the back of the house was pouring out water. spoke to my rent manager, he said he'd ring around and get some one out if he could. i went to the bathroom and heard the toilet making funny noises. bathroom was flooded with water leaking out of a pipe on the toilet. it was then leaking into the kitchen below the bathroom. wrapping lots of flannels round and stuck a bucket down to catch the water. Rang rent manager and he said noone could come out til tomorrow. I then decided to fiddle around with the box bit on the toilet as I was dying to go to the loo! It was almost over flowing with water and god knows what I did it, but I fixed it!! Sorry it may seem like a simple thing to most people, but never had to deal with that before so very proud of myself lol

Well done you!!
Sounds like the overflow to me tammybear. Keep an eye on it as it may happen again . There should be a pipe isolator valve on the water pipe feeding the toilet. It looks like a metal thing with a groove on it. It will look as if it joins the pipe together. If you put a screwdriver head into the groove and turn it 90 degrees it will turn off the water supply to the loo. It will mean you can't flush the loo but will stop the water going all over the place and making loads of mess.
Good Luck.
