Photo editor that doesn't follow a subscription model

Are there any ladies who do photo editing (both professional and just as hobby) and who use something which is not Adobe products (i.e. Lightroom/Photoshop)? I do it as a hobby and I enjoy it but lately I don't have that much time to take pictures and then work magic on them, so my LR subscription mostly goes to nowhere and but shelling out £10 pm is a bit too much for me. I thought about Gimp which is free, but I've heard a lot of negative reviews about its interface. Any ideas?
(I understand I should go to a photographer's website or some forum with questions like that and I will, but just in case I've decided to ask here as well).

I like GIMP 😊 as does my 11 YO DS x

@MamaMoonbeam I've heard it is good but some people on photographers forums keep saying how awful the interface is. On the other hand, I guess, it's pretty subjective

It's free - no harm in trying and see how it goes? X

@MamaMoonbeam true :)

Affinity photos is a one time payment. I have it on my iPad, but I think you can buy it for a laptop/computer too, not 100% sure.

@Times10 oh, I forgot I've read about it, too! Thanks!

I'll second Affinity, it's good. There are also lists of different Adobe Photoshop alternatives, so maybe check them, too?

@FearlessSwiftie thanks!

I use lightroom but have heard excellent things about affinity. I also use alien skin for fine tuning but it's a full raw editor - and was a one time payment after a trial rather than a subscription!

you can buy copies of Photoshop CS5 from ebay. I'm still running version 12 of that, no subscription, and it does everything I want.
I've tried GIMP, but really couldn't get on with it.
