Keep your filthy disgusting cats at home!

My 3yo son just ran across my front lawn and jumped in the car. On the way, he's trodden in cat poo ( there's a regular offender, and no, it's not fox ). There's now cat poo all across the back seat of my car. I'm first trimester, and horrified at the prospect of toxoplasma, even though I know the risk is low.

This is on the background of my aracuana chicks being stolen by cats from my own back yard. I don't care how lazy you think your cat is - research has shown that even the most placid cat will kill 2-3 animals per night if allowed to roam.

Keep them locked up ffs! If you can't keep them inside, make a run. If you can't do that, keep rabbits instead.

Thanks Usrname they're a pair that were rescued.

AToBiba · 12/10/2020 01:35

It will be one cat or one family of cats who have decided your garden is their territory, so you need to take steps to dissuade them of that opinion.

Anyway, in my experience a filled and at the ready Supersoaker works very well.

And at least it's not fox shit...

ViciousJackdaw · 12/10/2020 01:36

I understand OP, one person's choice to own a cat means that someone else has to pick up its shite. Some of the itty bitty pwitty kitty brigade really are selfish arseholes.

AToBiba · 12/10/2020 01:37

What is wrong with you

I'm inclined to approve. Anyone who lets a cat outside unchipped - and even worse, unneutered - is a very irresponsible owner and the cat deserves a shot at a better home.

YoureRight · 12/10/2020 01:40

These threads always go the same way. The neglectful cat owners who release their animals into the risks of the general public/poison/vehicles/predators/getting trapped Etc simply don’t give a fuck. The cat owners who don’t give a fuck will witter in about how their animal doesn’t kill things when it’s let loose, unsupervised. And people will post photos of their animal looking utterly unremarkable and bland, expecting congratulations.

People who choose to have a cat need to keep the thing indoors, and/or in a catio. Anything else is reckless and cruel. And no one on earth wants to see your boring-ass photos. Yawn.

MakeAPeaCry · 12/10/2020 01:40

I never can work out why there is such different societal attitudes towards cat and dogs tbh.

Both animals have roaming as part of their natural behaviours but in dogs it is considered irresponsible to let it roam (in the UK - in other countries it is considered normal) whereas in cats it is considered a natural right.

Both animals will shit in public. In dogs the owner, if caught, is disgraced or fined. In cats it is considered nothing really to do with the owner.

Dogs tend to be bigger and stronger, so from that POV are more dangerous to humans. But the law covering control applies to all dogs, even those weighing 4kg with no teeth so that's not all the story. Plus I've heard a couple of vets say injuries from cats tend to be more trouble, because of infection rates, than dog injuries. Still, as a species dogs do pose a higher risk to human life. But that doesn't explain the poo thing.

In all honesty, I think we're just in the middle of a pendulum swing - I can well imagine that in years time, the view of roaming cats will have changed and it will be frowned upon. Just like 50years ago, roaming dogs were more or less accepted but now are not.

Oh great, bingo !!!

Monty27 · 12/10/2020 01:43

OP
Ah shucks animals eh? 🙄

YoureRight · 12/10/2020 01:44

(Not many people ‘hate’ the animal, just it’s behaviour, allowed by bad owners who expose it to a multitude of risks. Keep it indoors and cherish the little darling and there’s no issue at all.)

Puffalicious · 12/10/2020 01:47

I fecking hate cats- sly, stinking creatures (no matter how clean your house is, I'm sorry but it still reeks of cat, yuck). I'm highly allergic and their hair gets everywhere. They also have an air of superiority and seem to stick 2 fingers up to everyone.

Their shit gets everywhere, it's foul. I'm off to order thise cat scares, thanks PP.

Coyoacan · 12/10/2020 01:57

You do all realise that cats keep rats and mice away.

1forAll74 · 12/10/2020 02:01

It's ridiculous to have a cat or cats, who have to stay in the house, You may as well get some cat ornaments. Its natural for most cats to go outside, and roam about a bit. Its also natural for some of them to hunt. I have three cats, and they do their toilet stuff in a designated area of my garden, They became accustomed to using the same place all the time.

Newjez · 12/10/2020 02:03

Are you allowed to trap and humanely kill cats that you find on your land?

They keep all the little birds, lizards, and native mammals away, too. I'd prefer the owls do the rodent control - if the cats don't eat them as chicks.

There are some really sick people on this thread. Putting out poison, capturing cats to send to a rescue when you're aware they have a home (not talking about strays)? Go ahead with the cat spikes on your fence, humane cat deterrents, squirting them with tap water when they come into your garden, but to intentionally kill an innocent animal? To take it away from its family? That's more disgusting than a bit of cat shite.

UsernameNotValid · 12/10/2020 02:14

@Coyoacan, yes. And I know that spiders keep flies at bay. Still won't have them in the house though!!

@BadTattoosAndSmellLikeBooze, don't be an arse. You don't need to see your GP for disliking animals or their shit in your property.

Monty27 · 12/10/2020 02:14

Can't wait for the RSPCA get you in the dock OP and your supporters

UsernameNotValid · 12/10/2020 02:16

I'd like to think that the (few) people joking about harming the cats are trying (and failing) to be as 'hilarious' as the few who are saying they would rather their cat shat in someone else's garden etc.

What, for being disgusted by cat poo and bringing them a collarless cat?
