Hope everyone is safe and well....So I used to live in NY and met my sons dad there. I conceived my son there. However As I came back to the UK he used that as a way to not talk to me. My son is now 3 soon to be 4. We haven't spoken properly for ages he's blocked me on all social media and used to only very occasionally answers my emails, which is now changed to never. He has told me to come back to America to get a DNA test however I was in out of work at the time and couldn't afford it. I'm back working and self employed now so could travel but when restrictions lifted I would prefer if it was just court ordered and official, there's no guarantee he will meet me and I don't trust him to take it on his own. Please can someone tell me the best way around this? I'm not doing this for money so when I prove he is it will stay the same as it always has with him not giving me anything. That's not my motivation at all. I just want my son to know.

Genealogical research and DNA testing can challenge the family oral history. In 2010 I started researching my paternal grandparents. I discovered that the family story about being German was false. Lots of the documents - the census entries, draft cards, immigration and naturalization, a coroner's inquest said Lithuanian or Russian. It was a religious minority of Lutherans, but Lithuanian, nonetheless. The new information caused anger and opposition, even from the side of the family not affected. I was accused of trying to undermine the family identity with a malevolent agenda. The DNA testing proved the Baltic origins true. Other than that, the only surprise was in the transcript of the coroner's inquest, which said a grandfather was born out of wedlock, and therefore the family name is matrilineal. One thing I was hoping for from the DNA test was finding paternal relatives, but those haven't shown up yet.
