Fire drill?

We began having a conversation tonight at dinner about what we should do if a fire broke out in the house. DH and I started to tell the kids (7 and 5) to wait in their rooms if the fire breaks out at night so we can come and get them, but then it started getting complicated, as the kids wanted to know what to do if the fire broke out in their rooms. We've got battery and mains smoke alarms, but wondered if anyone has a fire drill, or if anyone knows what the right thing to do is?

You can ask a fire safety officer (advisor) from the fire brigade to come round - they (usually) don't charge and are very keen to come and give advise
