sounds odd but the other day i sat down and worked out that we buy about 4 or 6 bottles of squash. that sounds odd enough but there is only me and my partner no children living here or visiting.
i only like orange mixed not plain orange sugar free of course. we rarely have hot drinks tend to have them if we go out to a cafe for a treat.
anyway i was thinking we must get through an awful lot and i just wondered what is the thing you buy most of every week an unusual item

Those jars of chillies. We have got through quite a lot of them from our local Cypriot greenrocers!

Shannith · 23/08/2020 17:59

I get through 1kg of carrots each week and I'm the only one who eats them. To be fair the horse gets a few but normally just the ends because I eat them. Also about 14 apples a week and the horse gets the cores. She's not fussy.

Shannith · 23/08/2020 18:04

I'm not sure now if that's weird or not. Possibly weird that I keep all the apple corses and odd bits of carrot in the fridge in a special horse bag Smile

AgeLikeWine · 23/08/2020 18:06

Tinned mackerel in tomato sauce. I know most people buy it for their cats, but I actually like the stuff.

Immigrantsong · 23/08/2020 18:07

Pistachios

Thatbliddywoman · 23/08/2020 18:10

A shit load of salsa ingredients.

I make it almost every day. Other than that.. I guess more weird that I don't buy milk, bread or biscuits.

KitKatastrophe · 23/08/2020 18:18

@AriesTheRam

Sparkling water. We get through around 12 litres a week
You need a soda stream. It'll save your arms from carrying 12kg of water and probably work out cheaper.
Shitfuckoh · 23/08/2020 18:20

Free from bread for my youngest. I find it disgusting - poor mite Shock

IHaveBrilloHair · 23/08/2020 18:59

@JingsMahBucket
I definitely have a cheese tooth.

labazsisgoingmad · 23/08/2020 20:07

ooh love cheese i must admit there are quite a few fridges id like to have a rustle round in!
@Ginfordinner to your point about what people consider “strange”, I currently have both duck breast prosciutto and smoked duck breast in my fridge. I’ve been slicing the prosciutto and eating it straight as a snack with cheese, apples and crackers. The last fatty bit will likely get sautéed with some greens for flavour. After sampling a few slices of the smoked duck breast meat, I’ll likely use that as a meat topping / accompaniment for fresh salads.
Yum. That sounds delicious.

I eat a bag every single day and very little else apart from peanut butter on toast.

Why don't you eat a wider range of foods @Tana433?

Sparkling water. We get through around 12 litres a week

All those plastic bottles Hmm. Why not buy a soda stream?

AriesTheRam · 23/08/2020 22:27

You can recycle the plastic bottles they come in

Dylanpickle · 23/08/2020 22:29

Beetroot- just me that eats it. Get through about 3/4 packs of cocktail beetroot a week. You can't eat too much as you end up with pink wee.

TeddyIsaHe · 23/08/2020 22:30

Do is Polish, so I often have 4/5 types of sausage, lots of pickled or salted fish, fermented salady things or lots of dumplings in the fridge.

lazylinguist · 23/08/2020 22:33

Cucumber. We just seem to get through a lot of it! Oh and peanut butter. Not that peanut butter is weird, but we eat tons of it, and only the special brand that I like!

LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett · 23/08/2020 22:33

Crespo dry black pitted olives. If someone brings any other type of olives in then I can take or leave them, but I am obsessed with the dry ones and always, always have them in the house. I think I just don't like brine or weird stuffings...

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 23/08/2020 22:38

Sheep's yoghurt, I order it online and get six half litre containers at a time. It's tastes delicious and is very low lactose (I'm lactose intolerant).

We get through a lot of Helterskelters, orange juice ice lollies with a triple helix of different flavour fruit juices going around the outside.

Dryadia · 23/08/2020 23:10

organic goat's milk kefir.. At least twice a month I actually find myself adding things to my shop purely to reach the £13 minimum spend. Just so I can have fresh kefir every week. I have only found the one shop that sells it.

Dh thinks the stuff is the most disgusting thing he has tasted and can't believe I drink it every day.

IHaveBrilloHair · 23/08/2020 23:11

I love Crespo oloves, I always have them to add to pizzas, ditto anchovies.

IHaveBrilloHair · 23/08/2020 23:12

Olives obvs, typo.

FredaFrogspawn · 23/08/2020 23:18

Spinach. I have at least one big bag every three or four days. Mainly for breakfast, which I eat four times a week.

@Dylanpickle the first time I ate a goodly amount of beetroot one week, I thought I was bleeding out of certain areas! Scared me beyond belief!

@IHaveBrilloHair I also like anchovies. I don’t go through them in mass quantities but I like them nonetheless. The canned ones are good in sauces and I’m planning to make an anchovy, tomato and caramelized onion puff pastry tart later this coming weekend.

I also love fresh anchovies but it’s so hard to find them in pure olive oil nowadays. They’re almost always now packed in sunflower oil which doesn’t have as much flavour or a mix of sunflower oil and vinegar. I think may buy some anyway and repack them in extra virgin olive oil in my fridge so they can soak up the flavour for a few days.

JingsMahBucket · 23/08/2020 23:26

@Strawberrypancakes yes to fresh milky mozzarella. Great with olive oil, salt and pepper for breakfast or a snack.

OnceUponALorry · 23/08/2020 23:29

I drink 21L of sparkling water a week.

My son and I drink 4.5L of squash each a week (me lemon and him summer fruits).
