we have a digital video camera and want to start editing film on the pc and burning it onto dvd.

does anyone else do this?

i know i'll need a new pc as mine can't even handle stills from the digital camera i just bought! what do you need on a pc for this and what is also good to have?

You need a huge amount of space on the hard drive!

Chuffed · 16/10/2004 18:29

we use pinnacle studio it is really easy to use but downloading the video does take lots of hard drive space. If you are buying a new pc get a dvd writer as it is great to have dvd's written off the camera. We send our to family overseas.

I use ULEAD DVD MOVIE FACTORY 2 which is quite good

Got it either in ARGOS or OFFICE WORLD

I use MGI Video Wave- very simple to use. You do need a massive amount of space on the hard drive- really you need to save to a dvd rather than a cd rom as the vcd quality not very good.

pixiefish · 16/10/2004 18:45

this is the sort of spec you need

Freddiecat · 17/10/2004 22:32

thanks all

how much harddrive space? the spec for pinnacle on amazon said 1hr of digital video needs 13Gb and Dell are now selling pcs with 80Gb. But do you need to download a whole DV tape at once or can you do it in smaller chunks?

OP posts:
pixiefish · 17/10/2004 22:37

I 'capture' in chunks of about 10 minutes- purely because it's easier for me. then when I've captured the whole tape off the camers onto my pc- i edit it if i need to and then copy it onto cd. dh getting me a dvd soon- so that'll be better as vcd quality is not good.

pixiefish · 17/10/2004 22:38

Mines 20 gig by the way and handles it beautifully. The spec that i've linked to is the same as i've got- whizzes along. have you looked at ebay for a pc- that's where i got mine- from the guy i've linked to

Can anyone help me with this question? I have been editing on our pc with Pinnacle and its gone great and I have saved it onto a dvd-rw disc. But I cannot seem to play this on my laptop. Its a few years old now and does not have a dvdrw drive. IS there any way that I can get around this easily. I have a dvd drive so I can watch dvds etc etc so why can't I watch a dvd that I have created????

rather confused about all this.

KangaMummy · 09/11/2004 12:52

I may be wrong but it could be because if you record onto DVD+RW I dont think it will play on DVD-RW

I friend couldn't play the dvd I made for them because of something like this then was told if I had set the settings to read only only media
