well I think for the end it's got to be Frank Sinatra and "My Way". Now for the rest - are you looking at anything Jewish traditional at all, or completely secular?

Davros · 15/10/2004 18:15

Noooo, New York New York. Went to a Bat Mitzvah last year and there was a disco done by Norf Lahndan's top duo and there certainly seemed to be a medley in the middle of Jewish music. I'll ask my friend for advice, it was the third she's done for her kids. Would you do that thing that happens at some Jewish parties..... the Israeli National Anthem at the end???

sleeplessmumof2 · 15/10/2004 22:29

no we are really just looking to have a great fun party, thanks for the suggestions M2S and davros and more suggestions would be appreciated !!!

sorry I have never been to one.
whats the significance of hte song thing?

sleeplessmumof2 · 17/10/2004 17:15

no real significance just that it is customary for the boy to enter the room to a song and for the disco/dancing to open with the barmitzvah boy dancing to a specific song, quite often really corny songs so if we are gonna go the corny route, the cornier the better, would really appreciate any ideas?

OP posts:
jampot · 17/10/2004 17:19

when you say corny do you mean something that really no-one would want to hear, eg Anita Dobson singing "anyone can fall in love"? or somethings specificially jewish and corny maybe a jewish artist

jampot · 17/10/2004 17:19

Me Julie by Ali G

OK, how's this for total inspiration?

Here Comes the Sun (son, geddit?)

Nice song, Beatles or Steve Harley version

sleeplessmumof2 · 18/10/2004 09:17

lol, but do you think anyone would get it?????? Or am i underestimating the brains of my friends and family davros, actually i think its a brilliant one!!!!

OP posts:
Davros · 18/10/2004 14:00

I was rather pleased with it I must admit! Doesn't matter if they get it or not, its a good "arriving" song and popular/well known and not naff. Let us know what you decide, you could get a Beatles compilation and start with that one and leave the rest on before moving on to other music.

agy · 18/10/2004 14:08

"I hope you dance" to start, "May you always (walk in sunshine)" to finish.

Davros · 18/10/2004 14:54

I hate I Hope you Dance, esp Ronan's version [ugh emoticon!].... but then I won't be there will I, have trouble forgetting that MN isn't RL!

agy · 18/10/2004 15:34
Smile
agy · 18/10/2004 15:47

I'd be all for the Beatles, though! give the kid a decent education!

sleeplessmumof2 · 18/10/2004 17:03

agy i think im really old or have just had my head in a bucket for a while but ive not heard of those but pleased to hear that you approve of hear comes the sun!!!.

Sadly i reckon my dp will not understand it though, typical male only one level, lovelable level tho'

if anything else comes to mind please let me know!!!

Simply the Best - Tina Turner
Tiger Feet - Mud
Under the Moon of Love - Showaddywaddy

Will he be doing the 'walking to the dance floor dance' a la Peter Kaye?
