As a rule, I do not expect anything from my in-laws and I would never ask for anything.
My in-laws interfered financially with us buying a house that was too expensive. We borrowed money from them. They never specified anything about the payback. My husband said that I do not have worry about anything. But after a year of us buying the house, they specified their terms which were worse than the part we lent from the bank. I know I am part to blame- this is something we had to settle before buying the house, but it felt like a stab in the back as well. They then 'loosened' their terms again, but I felt the whole ideal was unnecessary. I would have never borrowed any money if I knew what was going to happen. In retrospect it felt as i f they wanted to gain control over us. The whole odeal left a major dent in the relationship, which, at times I now find completely superficial. DO NEVER BORROW ANY MONEY WITHOUT TERMS SPECIFIED OR A CONTRACT. People may seem nice but when it comes to money, people can become mean.
