Assault on my child

My son is 9 today a girl who hes never met before three a big piece of wood at his head.
His cheek is massive with a wound on it.
He has a black eye.
I've sent pictures to a friend who knows the parent to show them.
I've been told the child has behavioural issues but would you take it further.
Or make the children see each other again to sort it out.
Tia

I'd need to know a lot more detail.
Where / when / how did this happen ?

What was the run up to it?
Was the girl there with her own adult(s) ?
Did she actually throw it at him or was he very unlucky in where he happened to be standing ?
Why would you take your child to see another child they didn't previously know 'to sort it out if she had just attacked him ? Confused

On face value, an assault like that sounds like it needs reporting to the police, but I'd be interested to understand the circumstances a bit more.

It depends how and why it happened. Whether it was an accident or on purpose.
Did it happen because of lack of supervision?

Can't comment otherwise because different scenarios need different answers and ways to deal with it.

He was with his friend in the small park directly outside our flat, his friend had another friend with her and she apparently has anger issues. She just launched a piece of wood at his head no reason.
My partner saw the whole thing but was in the kitchen so couldn't stop it.
I've spoken to the mum now and she is going to write an apology in the post.
Hopefully that will give him some closure.
