Anyone tape Brookie?

Long shot, but my little sis is having a well earned break, and I've been entrusted with recording 'her soaps' - namely Brookside and Eastenders omnibus editions. Needless to say, I missed todays Brookside omnibus as it was on much earlier than usual.
So, if anyone has taped it and could part with it awhile, it would save major explanation on my part. Will happily send money for p+p, plus new video tape to say thanks!

Is anyone else as distraught as I am to hear that Channel 4 is axing Brookside? It's the only soap I watch religiously and it's evening slots are being replaced with just the 90min omnibus at the weekend, and next year it will get the chop.

Gutted! Long Live Jimmy Corkhill! (Or am I alone in my grief?)

I watched it from the first episode in 1982 until about 2 years ago; it was the episode when Jackie Corkhill was about to marry that rich bloke and I decided enough was enough and stopped. It had got too daft I thought. It was fantastic for the first few years though. Barry Grant was gorgeous and Karen my hero for a while. Did you watch the Damon and Debbie spinoff? I was inconsolable when he died!

I keep missing Brookside - used to watch it avidly. Has Anthony been found out yet as the killer of that horrible girl?

Scatterbrain · 12/10/2002 09:15

I think it's really gone downhill lately - I hardly ever watch it nowadays and I used to be addicted - watched every one since the very beginning ! Oh and yes - Damon & Debbie was excellent - I cried too !

Fionn, I watched it right from the beginning too, but gave up a bit before you. I was totally in love with Barry Grant, and also Damon!! It was sooo sad when he died in Damon and Debbie. This really makes us show our age doesn't it!

WideWebWitch · 12/10/2002 10:37

I used to watch this but haven't for years and years now. Agree, Barry Grant was gorgeous although he wasn't when he turned up as a copper in The Bill. Sue Johnston deserved an Oscar for playing Sheila as did Ricky Tomlinson for Bobby. But they've gone on to better things with The Royle Family. I liked Karen too and fancied Max and hated Patricia. Showing my age too.

Yep - the oldies were the best. Liked the Grants, and the whole Berry Grant/Terry storyline. anyone remember Amanda Redman in it as the posh woman who lived on the close for awhile wih her husband? Hated it when they had that awful young couple of actors who were having an incestuos brother/sister affair. Got a bit better when they left, then that horrible Irish family came - ugly brothers (one of which was accused of raping Nicky shadwick - another boring storyline that seemed never ending), and a wooden mother who couldn't read or write (or act.....).
Have hardly watched it since Jackie Corkhill left - so has Anthony been done for the murder of that girl then?......

Yes, I too have watched it since it started, but over the last year I've not been bothering - not a conscious decision, just other things (OK, mumsnet! ) seem more interesting. Still sad to hear that it's going, though - I like to know it's there, just in case I want to catch it. I come from that area of the world, so it's always reminded me of home.
And I loved Damon & Debbie.

Looks like I'm on my own then! I agree the plots/characters are pretty poor these days, but I still have to watch!

The Anthony/Imelda story is still going, he's not been found out yet.
