Another fancy dress question ...

Dh and I have been invited to a fancy dress party, with a theme of "Pirates and Wenches". I don't want to dress as a pirate (although dh would be stunning as a wench!) but I'm not really sure what to do for a costume. I'm a BIG girl so hiring something or buying off the peg is going to be difficult, but I'm not a dressmaker either, so I'm stuck!

I did think about an Ann Summers wench costume but they don't come big enough!! Any ideas, anyone?

The only thing I can think of as a wench was the lady in OLIVER who was with Bill Sykes, in the film she wore a low cut top and a layered skirt and black boots.

Is that what you meant?

Yes, I'd thought that kind of thing but I'm not sure, Kangamummy. I know the sort of look you mean but as I'm not a standard size it will be difficult to buy. I don't really know where to start with making one, either!

do you have a t shirt that you could rip or cut into a deep V neck

If you got different coloured material and made a skirt by putting say 3 lengths and then fixing to elastic for a waist.

All you would need is a long length approx 2metres and join it to elastic it one on top of other would not need to be neat as you are a wench not a lady.

Do you have one of those 'peasant' tops lurking in your wardrobe that were quite fashionable about 2 years ago?? They're elasticated at the top? You could then pull that down over your shoulders and, if you are not self-conscious, wear a bra that squeezes your boobs together and have them poking out! Wear over a long gathered skirt with a coloured scarf round your waist and another coloured shawl to cover your modesty (if you have any ). Team up with piled up messy hair, red smudged lipstick and white face with a beauty spot done with a black eyeliner and big gold hoop earrings. And carry a big tankard!

Flippin' heck, Monkeygirl, sounds delightful! I'm not sure the other guests would appreciate my boobs poking out ... although I have no modesty really, so what the hell!

Oh, I've got boobs alright, Kangamummy - 46G might be a bit much to flash at other people though! . I've also got the other wobbly bits that go with them ...

TP - they will look magnificent! Even if you haven't got the clothes just flash the flesh, have some tarty make-up with the ripped stockings and boots and proposition all the boys .

The party is 6 November, so I've got a couple of weeks to work myself up to it! Although I don't know why I should feel the need to preserve any modesty, I did a nude calendar shoot a couple of months ago for the theatre that our friends all belong to, so by then they'll have seen it all anyway

TP - you don't need a costume then . I'm very impressed, I would never ever do anything like that, not even for charity, and tbh I don't think anyone would ever ask.

Actually it was great fun, all very tasteful despite being totally nude (and yes, I couldn't resist the line about going to need considerably bigger buns).

Dh hasn't seen the idea yet, but he'll LOVE it (men!!!). We may never get as far as the party .

god I wish someone would invite me to something like that. I would have to go as a pirate though as my boobs are practically non-existant (I'm a size 8).

It would be great fun. Hey I know how about Ann Bonney? The most famous female pirate.

Oh god yes some where built like "wenches" but Ann Bonney was as ruthless as she was beautiful (very)
