Hi. Can anyone help? I have been TTC for over a year and recently went to see my doctor. My periods are irregular (cycles between 28-40 days) so I had a 21 day progesterone test. It showed, apparently, that I'm not ovulating. However, I am now on day 32 and still no period. Nothing unusual in that but I've read that that means the test is invalid. Is it possible that I'm actually pregnant. Or would the 21 day test have shown that?

There was a discussion about encouraging ovulation here a while back. I don't have any knowledge of this but hope someone else can be more useful.

Hi
I'm in a similar position to you - I've been trying for 14 months now and my cycle was always as irregular ( or even more so) than yours before I started taking a homeopathic remedy when trying for dd. After this my cycle was more regular BUT that in itself does not mean that I was ovulating.

The fact that you are on day 32 does not automatically mean that the 21 day test is invalid - but if you wait much longer for your period then it probably would be. I don't think you would be pregnant as a 'non ovulatory' result means low progesterone - and if you were pregnant you would have high progesterone.

After 6 months of trying thsi time my GP put me on 50mg of clomid for 3 months ( days 3-5 of cycle) then 100mg for 3 months. NOTHING. I asked to see a consulatnat privately as I'm 38 - he put me on yet more clomid - 100mg days 2-6 ( so effectively almost double the dose. BUt he is also scanning me and doing regular progesterone tests so I will know if I am ov'ing ( did last month ( my first month with him)

You can also get a good idea if you are ov'ing by temperature charting - see the web site tcoyf.com for details - the site also has lots of other useful info.
I'm rushing tonight as have LOADS to do ( adn shouldn't really be on mumsnet at all!) but if I think of anything I've missed i'll add to this at the weekend

A second post as I've since had more information on my own situation which makes me cross and I want to ensure nobody elase has the same bad service. When my GP gave me clomid he did NO monitoring at all - neither day 21 test or scanning. Although the consultant thought I was ovulating from my scan this month the 21 day test shows that I didn't ( not sure how this happened - will have to ask when I next see him.)
This despite being now on a yet higher dose of clomid than I was with the GP - thus it is likely that for 6 months the GP fed me drugs that weren't actually working and because he didn't bother to monitor me (and at the time I wasn't clued up enough to ask about it, I just presumed that he knew what he was doing!) I've wasted a whole 6 months which at 38 I certainly can't afford to do. Am not amused!
