A joke about a black plastic bag being called a 'Diana Ross'.

I'll explain the context later, just interested for now to know how people respond.

'bag ish ness' is not so much about looks or age imo but about attitude and how one projects ones self. If you wear Per Una, this is your choice, no?

I quite like the following descriptions of how people take their coffee

A Julie Andrews= White Nun
A Whoopie Goldberg = Black Nun
A Mary Poppins= A Julie Andrews with a spoonful of sugar

Well, I'll let that go, newlife, because I know you're having a tough time at the moment

Thanks everyone, this is interesting.

I didn't give the comment much thought when it was originally printed other than to think 'ooh, that's a bit off'. It was the editor's response that pissed me off more because he clearly didn't give a f*ck that some people had been offended by it, which just seemed rude.

It's a traditional boats magazine which is mostly read by middle aged men and from time to time they go on about how few young people are interested in classic boats and how vital it is to attract young people if the boats are to survive. I can't help thinking they're not doing themselves any favours by writing editorials that read like a few old drunks propping up the bar in the yacht club and exchanging terrible jokes.

From the evidence of this thread though, it looks like fewer people are bothered by it than I had expected, which is probably good.

not racist I think but they deserve to be locked up for crimes against humour.
